Description

The Alexa Experiences and Services UX Research team seeks a passionate, innovative and highly motivated Senior UX Researcher to join our research team. Alexa is the ground-breaking, AI-enabled, cloud-based intelligent assistant that powers Echo and other devices designed around your voice. We are searching for a Senior UX Researcher to generate insights into customer needs that inform design decisions, and evaluate usability of features in the areas of the Alexa AI experience.

Your research will be agile, keeping pace with the rapid innovation in the team, but also making sure that we're keeping an eye on the big picture in understanding our customer groups. You would be joining a passionate research team that is a collaborative, creative and cohesive group of tenured researchers.

You should have broad skills in user research and design research methods, and a thorough understanding of qualitative and quantitative research concepts. There will be overlapping projects, so you should be good at multitasking, juggling competing priorities, and organizing yourself. Most of all, you're excited by translating uncertainty and ambiguity into actionable recommendations at a quick-pace.

As an ideal candidate, you have a deep understanding of user research methods and best practices, but you also have a nimble, creative and pragmatic approach, and you're interested in pushing the boundaries of agile research. You are a passionate researcher with uncanny observational and analytical skills, an impressive ability to collaborate with other teams and designers, and a relentless determination to do what is right for Amazon's customers. You can work with minimal direction and capable of working quickly while delivering high-quality outputs. You will work on overlapping projects, so are good at multi-tasking, juggling competing priorities, and organizing yourself.

Key job responsibilities

  • Perform research activities from study design to recruiting, moderation, analysis, and reporting.

  • Conduct lab-based user testing, remote testing, paper prototype testing, iterative prototype testing, concept testing, field research, and survey design.

  • Manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi-task in an agile environment.

  • Pitch in on various aspects of small and big projects alike, working collaboratively with other researchers.

A day in the life

You will be responsible for designing and implementing a research strategy - possibly inventing some new research techniques along the way. Your research will be agile, performing quick but thorough data analysis in order to create insightful findings. Our team moves fast and iterate continually. You will be right there with them - but you will also find time to zoom out and ask the big questions that change the course of these programs. You will interact daily with product managers, designers, engineers and your research peers to understand and guide the team’s research needs, including designing and conducting research activities. The goal being to drive impact, as measured by changes to the fast-paced product design and development roadmap.

Basic Qualifications

  • 6+ years proven success leading User Research projects with demonstrated impact

  • Bachelor's degree in HCDE, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, or a related field

  • A strong research portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables (e.g. study plans, reports)

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS in Human Factors, HCDE, or Cognitive Psychology

  • Retail/E-commerce research experience in a global context

  • Direct experience with research on a variety of devices (desktop, mobile, tablet)

  • Exceptional behavioral data-collection and analysis skills, e.g., designing, conducting, and analyzing all kinds of user data, both quantitative and qualitative

  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization

  • Strong grasp of quantitative data analysis and statistics

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $121,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $226,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
