Amazon Software Development Engineer II, Devices Data Services in Bellevue, Washington

Description

The Devices Data Services SDE team is focused on developing scalable platforms and systems that enhance data accessibility, both within the Devices organization and across Amazon as a whole. The team works to lower the barrier for non-technical users to access data, as well as enabling technical users to seamlessly integrate their systems with data. The goal is to empower Amazonians with the data insights they require to effectively manage their business operations, while also ensuring compliance with data governance policies. In addition to facilitating easier data access, the team also creates tools to drive personalization and recommendation systems.

Key job responsibilities

As a Software Development Engineer on this team, you will collaborate with other senior engineers to drive improvements to our existing solutions, as well as design and develop new solutions. You will be responsible for building the optimal customer experience, with a keen focus on performance, security, and usability. You will work closely with Product Managers and customers, and collaborate to convert our strategic vision into a robust technical solution. This position requires in-depth knowledge and expertise in the design and development of both backend and frontend applications. Candidates should possess experience with agile methodologies, proficiency in at least one high-level programming language, and a proven track record of building scalable and robust solutions. You will own the end-to-end design and implementation of the deliverables, working closely with SDEs and Data Engineers, to implement them.

A day in the life

Your primary focus will be on creating new solutions and features that facilitate easy access to data and automate tasks, thereby saving our customers valuable time and effort. You will interact extensively with other engineers across the company, working in close collaboration with software development engineers, data engineers, data scientists, and product managers to bring these solutions to life. You will be expected to leverage best practices for architecting, building, testing, deploying, and maintaining our software. This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop valuable cloud computing skills across a diverse array of AWS services, all within a high-visibility, agile, and fast-paced environment. We actively encourage experimentation, innovative technology solutions, and maintaining close customer contact.

About the team

The Devices Data Services team is a unique blend of Software Development Engineers, Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Business Intelligence Engineers, and Product Managers. This diverse range of expertise positions us uniquely to leverage a comprehensive suite of AWS technologies and full-stack programming capabilities to address complex customer challenges. We are focused on developing new platforms and solutions that seamlessly integrate data with the broader development ecosystem. Currently, the DDS team is playing a pivotal role in enabling high-impact, cross-Amazon data governance and other strategic initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  • · 3+ years of professional full-stack software development. · Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical field, or commensurate professional experience. · Experience with at least one modern object-oriented programming language · Writing unit and integration tests · Experience with Computer Science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms and complexity analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Knowledge of professional software engineering & best practices for full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $129,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
