Primary Purpose

Organize, manage and conduct daily operations of COCC’s Fall, Winter, and Spring Term Intramural Volleyball League. This includes responding to and reporting participant behavior and injuries, communicating to league participants about game schedules, standings, results, rosters, and waivers, and assisting with equipment and gym set-up and take-down.

Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage League Operations on a night-to-night basis, including:

  • Assist with equipment and gym set-up prior to events each night.

  • League rules are being followed accurately by participant-refs, and they are communicating and managing games effectively.

  • Clock and/or Scoreboard accuracy throughout games

  • Be vocal directly to any participants who need reminders of league rules, especially if game referees are not vocal.

  • Monitor participants in gym while they are not participating, as well as fans in bleachers.

  • Communicate directly to teams before each game begins regarding announcements like behavior expectations, last date to add players to teams, holiday closures on campus, etc.

  • Assist Coordinator of Club and IM Sports in registration process, and email communication of registration details.

  • Responsible for organizing all rosters, and liability waivers.

  • Create Game Schedule, Team Standings, and Playoff Brackets.

  • Communicate weekly via email to team captains and league participants regarding previous week’s game results, following week’s game schedule, standings, and announcements.

  • Create fun and inclusive environment for participants.

  • Follow established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.

  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret rules, regulations and techniques of the sport.

  • Must be self-starter, capable of independent action and project initiation without supervision.

  • Skills in creating effective team environment.

  • Able to accommodate flexible work schedule including participation in evening and weekend events and able to travel throughout College district.

  • Able to represent the College in a positive, professional manner and work effectively with community partners.

  • Able to interact with a diverse set of individuals and groups representing a variety of backgrounds.

  • Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of stakeholders such as referees, club sports association members, athletic trainers, COCC staff, and students.

  • Ability to develop cooperative working relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds and other aspects of human diversity.

  • Ability to display patience in interactions with students and community visitors who do not have experience with the athletic process.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using English language with or without the use of auxiliary aids or an interpreter.

    Ergonomic Requirements

Work hours are determined by the supervisor and vary based on business needs and locations. Position assignments may be assigned an alternate schedule to service the campus needs. Requires the ability to sit, stand or be mobile for extended periods, and possibly in various weather outdoors. Occasional lifting up to 25lbs. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the specific sport coaching.

Necessary Special Qualifications (required):

  • Current valid Oregon driver’s license or ability to obtain prior to scheduled activity date, must be able to successfully complete COCC Driving Policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in league management or coaching at the club, high school or college level.

  • Experience in higher education environment.
