Reference #: 4563156 THE POSITION The Department of Transportation is looking for someone to conduct standardized examinations to evaluate the skill and competence of Non-Commercial Driver License applicants and determine the physical and driving qualifications of applicants and the mechanical conditions of vehicles for conformance to the established standards necessary for safe driving. This position has direct contact with customers, works independently and a part of a team and reports to the Driver License Center Supervisor. DESCRIPTION OF WORK In this role, you will be responsible for conducting standardized on-road examinations to assess the skills and competence of applicants seeking a Non-Commercial Driver License in a safe and courteous manner. Your duties will include evaluating the physical conditions and driving qualifications of applicants, as well as inspecting the mechanical condition of vehicles according to established guidelines and standards. Prior to administering driving tests, you will need to perform pre-trip inspections on vehicles, checking for inspection stickers, lights, windshield wipers, and other mechanical features to ensure safety and assess the applicant's familiarity with vehicle controls. Additionally, you will be required to review applications, registrations, and permits for any signs of irregularities or potential fraud. As part of your responsibilities, you will also be administering both CDL and Non-CDL knowledge examinations to assess applicants' understanding of the motor vehicle code and traffic signs, as well as their ability to operate a motor vehicle safely and follow road regulations. Furthermore, you will conduct tests of vision, such as telebinocular and color perception tests, to ensure that applicants meet the necessary visual requirements for driving.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

Full-time employment, 80 hours bi-weekly Work hours are 8:15 AM to 4:45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch Overtime and travel required Salary:In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Check your email, including spam/junk folders, for these notices.   REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant (commonwealth title); or Two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.

Special Requirements: All positions require an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver's License or equivalent and twenty-one years of age at the time of application. All positions require no suspensions or revocations of a driver's license during the five-year period immediately preceding employment. All employees in this job hired after February 28, 2022, are required to obtain an active unrestricted Class M driver's license within the first six months of employment or before the end of the probationary period and maintain it during employment.
