What you'll do...
The Director of Engineering, Emerging Technology at Walmart International Technology is a leadership role responsible for spearheading the development and execution of innovative technology products across international markets and driving a culture of innovation across our organization. This role is central to driving the vision, strategy, design, and development of cutting-edge technologies and ensuring the alignment of technology development with Walmart's global strategic goals. The successful candidate will have a passion for identifying and leveraging emerging technologies to create differentiated, customer-centric solutions.
About Team:
Our Emerging Technology team is dedicated to exploring and building cutting-edge solutions in areas such as AI, machine learning, IoT, and beyond. We serve Walmart International, which has over 5,900 retail units operating outside of the United States under 55 banners in 26 countries including Africa, Argentina, Canada, Central America, Chile, China, India, Japan, and Mexico, to name a few.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and lead the technology strategy and roadmap for emerging technologies, ensuring alignment with overall business goals.
Identify opportunities and gaps within the market to develop new, innovative products and features.
Lead cross-functional teams to deliver products that satisfy customer needs and exceed expectations.
Market Analysis and Insights:
Stay at the forefront of technology trends, identifying opportunities for innovation, exploring proofs-of-concept, and iterating on experimental ideas.
Lead research and development, including exploring emerging technologies, conducting experiments, and prototyping new solutions.
Evaluate competitive products and industry developments to inform product development and positioning strategies.
Technical Leadership
Oversee the entire development lifecycle from ideation to launch, including market research, user analysis, design, development, and post-launch assessment in partnership with our product leadership team.
Set and execute the technical roadmap, focusing on high-impact technology initiatives in emerging areas.
Design and review system architecture, ensuring scalable, secure, and efficient solutions that can support rapid growth and adaption
Work closely with product, design, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality, scalable, and innovative products.
Manage intellectual property, protecting IP through patents, trademarks, and copyright
Implement engineering best practices, ensuring code quality, security, and performance standards are maintained across all projects
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Identify and establish relationships with key partners, vendors, and external stakeholders to leverage the latest technology solutions and accelerate development
Collaborate with a diverse set of stakeholders including engineers, designers, marketers, and executives to develop and refine product concepts.
Communicate product vision, strategies, and progress effectively to a wide range of audiences, from team members to executive leadership.
Performance Monitoring:
Establish and monitor key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness and impact of the products.
Use data-driven insights to refine and adjust tech strategies and development as necessary.
Oversee the execution of the emerging technology roadmap, ensuring these initiatives stay on track, on time, and within budget.
Team Management and Development:
Lead and mentor a high-performing technology team, inspiring a team of engineers, fostering an environment of creativity, curiosity, and continuous improvement
Support team members' professional development, providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for growth.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, ideally in emerging tech or R&D environments
Strong knowledge of multiple emerging technologies (AI/ML, blockchain, IoT, etc.)
Proven experience in managing and launching technology products, preferably in a retail or e-commerce setting.
Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00-$260,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
