Robert Half Accounting Manager in Berkeley, California

Description We are seeking a Corporate Accounting Manager to help build and lead the company’s Finance & Accounting team. This role will work as a close partner to the Corporate Controller and CFO in evolving the company’s finance & accounting team, building sustainable and robust business processes, and ensuring accuracy and integrity in the company’s financial systems, policies, and procedures.

The individual must be a well-rounded finance leader whose experience includes increasingly responsible positions, preferably with high-growth, product-based companies. S/he needs to be a strategic thinker who can identify solutions to issues but also with the implementation skills to bring these solutions to fruition by working across the organization, collaborating with others, and ensuring execution through direct, hands-on involvement in any required change efforts.

The successful candidate should have technical finance and accounting skills and be capable of managing across all financial areas, including all aspects of general accounting, A/R, A/P, external and internal financial reporting, G& A, and have a demonstrated ability to develop and manage a team of accounting professionals.

Reports to: Corporate Controller / Chief Financial Officer

Direct reports: Manages the corporate accounting team which includes staff accountant(s) and accounts payable team.

Position Responsibilities

Oversees month-end financial close and all general accounting functions including accounts payable, and cash management. Works closely with Department Heads and assists the Corporate Controller in identifying and explaining monthly financial variances. In addition, the position is responsible for each of the following accountabilities:

• Lead Monthly Financial Close on a timely and accurate basis with related analysis and reconciliations.

• Prepare and review journal entries and reconciliations.

• Preparation and perform analytical review of monthly financials.

• Lead Monthly cross-functional financial reviews with Department Heads focusing on the forecasts, variances, financial and accounting issues.

• Ensure Compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.

• Work with Corporate Controller/CFO to complete the annual audit and preparation of the annual financial report including footnotes.

• Manage cash position through daily monitoring of cash disbursements and receipts and bank reporting.

• Managing, Developing and Motivating accounting and accounts payable staff

• Optimizing departmental productivity and cost effectiveness, including developing best in class processes and standard operating procedures.

• Overseeing Accounts Payable processes, providing guidance to team and ensuring consistent, accurate, timely transactions

• Ensuring compliance of accounting policies and procedures and effectiveness of internal controls

• Support system implementations, where applicable.

• Supporting other activities, projects as assigned or dictated by business priorities.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Business Administration. MBA or MS a Plus.

• Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible professional and management experience in accounting and finance for a large or medium-sized business is required.

• Consumer products manufacturing/distribution/eCommerce industry experience is required (multi-site location preferred), and food industry experience is strongly preferred.
