Sutter Health OB Technician in Berkeley, California

Position Overview:

Performs scrubbing functions for cesarean sections, emergent hysterectomies , post partum tubal ligation, double set-ups, dilation and curettage procedures. This position is accountable for preparing the OR/LDR suites with the required equipment to perform the specific surgical procedures in accordance to the applicable policies, regulations and professional standards practiced at ABMC. Maintains and orders supplies for the LDRs, surgical suites, triage, testing room, and recovery room. Provides and supports the registered nurse in the delivery of patient care in the obstetrical setting.

Job Description :

Complies with all established ABMC policies and procedures.

Works with the surgical team under the direction of a registered nurse to provide care to the obstetrical patient during the intra-operative period:

  • performs scrub duties according to procedure

  • selects and organizes supplies and equipment specific to the proposed surgical procedure

  • anticipates changes and makes adjustments in case preparation according to the variation in the surgical procedure

  • performs all counts per protocol

  • assists in the or circulating duties under the direction of a registered nurse

Participates in activities conducive to the safety of patient s and team members.

  • monitors and supports aseptic technique

  • assist in evaluating the quality and care of equipment, instruments, and supplies

  • assume responsibility for the care of specimens

Provides support during emergent situations

  • identifies and prepares appropriate emergency equipment

  • makes necessary changes in instrumentation in emergent cases

  • assist the surgical team as assigned

Attends shift report and reports off to the off-going Ob Technician. Wears pager and/or flip phone always.

Shift priorities determined by the Charge Nurse or designee.

Through Cygnet board, keep up with the progress of each patient in relationship to his/her responsibility for set-up for vaginal delivery, assisting RN during delivery, notification to admitting department of birth, obtaining medical record number and account number, disposal of delivery equipment, etc.

Removal of dirty instruments from LDRs and Delivery rooms, rinsed and taken to decontamination room located in Central Supply in a timely fashion.

Photos and footprints of baby taken in a timely fashion as requested by the primary RN

Assistance in the transfer of patients to respective units.

Equipment and other instruments removed from room after patient transfer with immediate communication to housekeeping.

LDRs restocked, ensure that furniture and equipment in place and ready for patient use.

All stocked rooms to be documented on report sheets.

Hallways are to be kept clear, stocking of PAR levels to include Triage, LDRs, Recovery Room, Operating Rooms, Medication Rooms, Clean Utility, Pantries and Dirty utility room and Ob Testing.

Supplies ordered according to assigned schedule

Maintenance of log for equipment sent to Engineering for repair with an estimated date of return. Communication of equipment for maintenance to be directed to Charge Nurse.

Documents actions consistent with established policies at ABMC

Utilizes effective and communication skills in relationship with other health care members

Functions as a team members and assumes delegated responsibilities that contribute to team, unit and department objectives.

Assists in decisions about, and evaluations of service capital equipment.

Participates in the development of policies and procedures.

Participates as a team member in providing feedback to charge nurse, team members, L&D staff and leadership for areas needing improvement.

Participates in Unit and Department Continuous Quality Improvement activities.

Provides other L&D duties as requested by charge nurses managers as assigned.

Work effectively and positively with other employees.

Maintain professional , service oriented demeanor in all interactions

Provide quality service to all customers

Comply with policies and procedures outlined in the Alta Bates Medical Center Human Resources Policy Manual

EDUCATION

  • Equivalent experience will be accepted in lieu of the required degree or diploma.

  • HS Diploma

  • Two Years College

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE

  • BCLS

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

  • Experience in inventory, ordering and stocking

Pay Range is $33.92 to $41.33 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
