The Reading Room Liaison will be responsible for assisting Technologists, Radiologists and other physicians in caring for their patients. The liaison assures that all old reports and studies
are available for comparison with the current studies. The liaison coordinates all patient record
activities. The liaison is also responsible for assisting all physicians who enter the reading room.They are responsible for calling all verbal reports to ordering physicians.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Answers all incoming calls to the reading room (goal is to answer within three rings). Promptly takes triages and accurately relays all messages to the appropriate Radiologist or staff member.
Updates RIS with current study location.
Log into “Outside Film Management” in the RIS to keep track of outside studies and disks received and/or returned.
Calls verbal reports as necessary. Accurately documents this transaction on the check-in document and log, if available.
Completes clerical functions including filing, copying, and faxing as necessary.
Provides assistance in locating lost studies.
Burns CD’s or prints film as requested for current patients waiting in the Department of Radiology or Emergency Department, and as requested by physicians.
Checks for daily Radiologist assignments, prioritizes, and expedites readings to appropriate Radiologist.
Prepares all paperwork for document scanning in Medical Records according to their guidelines.
Responsible for returning all outside studies to proper location. Accurate documentation must be recorded for this transaction.
Works in conjunction with the PACS support team in order to have the majority of studies read in less than 24 hours.
Prepares all “nighthawk” preliminary reads as first assignment of the day. Assists Radiologist in handling discrepancy reports.
Assists with cleaning and maintenance of Doctors’ work area and computer equipment.
Can quickly and accurately retrieve images from the PACS system as requested. Keeps up-to-date with software changes as they occur.
Responsible for the success of the department to achieve established Press Ganey goals.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to sit for up to 1 hour at a time. Be able to tolerate standing for 5-6 hours consecutively and be able to walk on level surfaces, stairs, carpeted surfaces, ramps for us to 30 minutes consecutively. Must have the ability to lift/move patient’s records weighing up to 20 pounds. Must have the ability to stoop/bend, crouch, kneel and reach above shoulder level.
EDUCATION:
High School Graduate or equivalent.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Interest in healthcare profession, computer skills and medical terminology preferred. Knowledge of anatomy preferred.
