Binghamton City School District Adult ED ESL Teacher in Binghamton, New York

The Binghamton City School District is seeking candidates to fill an anticipated part-time Adult Ed ESL Teacher position for the 2024-2025 school year.

Adult Education - Terms of Employment

Work Year: Adult Education staff follow the BCSD School Calendar during the months from September through June and work an additional 7 weeks in the months of July and August. (235 days per year)

Work week: Adult Education staff work Monday - Friday a total of 27.5 hours each week, 5.5 hours each day.

Distinguishing Features of the Class:

This work involves responsibility to provide direct services to Adult students for the purpose of training and support toward achievement of the General Equivalency Diploma and success on the TASC and/or Support in acquisition of English Language proficiency.

  • Cleared by criminal and NYS Child abuse and Neglect Registry.

  • Ability to access housing in Binghamton.

    An Adult Educator is responsible to:

  • Use the approved curriculum.

  • Develop, monitor and review goals with students.

  • Complete and interpret screenings or pre/posts tests for participating students initial and annual.

  • Connect clients to community resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs.

  • Attend monthly staff meetings.

  • Maintain accurate and objective records for all students; records are to be completed in a timely fashion.

  • Fully participate in accurate collection of requested data.

  • Attend the required number of hours of professional development and share knowledge gained with team members.

Job Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION:

(a) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, human services or behavioral science or a closely related field; or

(b) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in above and two years of experience in social work, childcare, mental health, early childhood education, working with individuals having learning disabilities; or

(c) Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and six (6) years of experience listed in (b) above; or

(d) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of (a), (b) and (c) above.

Note: 60 college credits in sociology, human services or behavioral science or a closely related field is equivalent to an Associate’s Degree.

Reports to:

Special Requirement: Complete training for Adult Education certification within 2 years of hire.

Compensation:

Adult Educators meeting requirements above without a Bachelor's Degree

$19 per hour

Adult Educators meeting requirements above including a Bachelor's Degree

$21.5 per hour

Adult Educators meeting requirements above plus valid NYS certification as a teacher

$25 per hour
