Avangrid Service Company Electrical Engineer Substation Lead in Binghamton, New York

TITLE: Electrical Engineer Substation Lead

LOCATION: NY, Kirkwood

WORK TYPE: Office

SALARY RANGE: $101,404 - $126,755

Job Summary

Responsible for managing and overseeing the development and design of substation and lines for major capital projects in Avangrid's operating territory in NY.

Position reports to the Unit Manager, but the position will work day-to-day in cross functional project team and support project needs as dictated by the project managers and business unit manager or Director.

Key Responsibilities

  • Project detailed engineering, designs and calculations using standard methodology & principles including all phases such as: scoping and budgeting, conceptual engineering, engineering design, construction, and closeout.
  • Review and update electrical drawings, to include single-lines, three-lines, AC wiring, DC schematics and logic for new and existing Substation Projects.
  • Develop & specify equipment, assemble documents & other requirements for assignments of projects using depth & breadth of expertise in own discipline.
  • Final documentation per substation project to include electrical as-built drawings.
  • Work with operations staff to provide technical support for substation projects.
  • Perform administrative function such as technical writing, providing job status reports, requesting quotations, and ordering materials.
  • NERC compliancy which includes assisting with defining company programs to be compliant with the applicable various NERC standards as well as applicable company, local, state, and national codes.
  • Travel to substation project sites within upstate NY.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experiences required.
  • Experienced in electrical substations, transmission systems, distribution systems operations up to 345kV, or protection and control design and construction preferred.
  • Thorough Knowledge of electrical power systems engineering.
  • Knowledge of various industry standards, regulations and compliance requirement associate with power systems such as OSHA, NESC, ASCE, IEEE, IEC, NFPA, NETA, and NERC.
  • Be capable of learning or have experience with power system engineering computer application such as CADD, CYMCAP, Aspen, PLS-Cad etc.
  • General knowledge of project management, supervisory principles, theories and techniques.
  • Advanced computer skills utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, email, facility control.

Skills/Abilities:
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Proficiency and fluency in substation engineering theory, application, standards, design, test, commissioning, and analysis

Preferred Qualifications
  • An advanced education such as Master's degree / MBA/ EIT or a Professional Engineering License is a preferred.
