Enterprise Foundations (EF) established scalability of both business processes and technology across all functional areas at Southern Company. The standardized business processes with modern cloud technology provides long-term benefits, creating greater efficiency and increased value to our customers. Within the AFT Strategic Transformation organization, the Business Operations team plays a crucial role in facilitating the daily functions of the EF Platform across Southern Company's entire network, encompassing both Electric and GAS sectors. This responsibility includes close collaboration with Business Units, Business Process Managers, and the EF Technology Organization.

This job posting is for a Business Support Analyst position within the Business Operations organization, specifically to support the PowerPlan fixed asset, lease, and tax accounting software system. The system consists of various modules that manage capital assets from acquisition to disposal, calculate book and tax depreciation, handle lease management, and compute income taxes, both current and deferred, as well as property taxes.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline is required.

  • 3+ years of experience with financial or accounting systems is required.

  • Understanding of Accounting, Finance, and Treasury business processes – Tax functions including Tax Accounting, Deferred Tax Accounting & Property Tax Accounting.

  • Experience with the PowerPlan system, preferred

  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required for this position.

  • Understanding of Accounting, Finance, and Treasury business process with heavy emphasis on Acquire 2 Retire process.

  • Strong analytical capabilities, including the ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex organizational and functional business issues.

  • A proven ability to build and maintain trusting relationships among colleagues and internal clients.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work with a team, build superior relationships, and collaborate across the Southern Company Accounting Finance and Treasury and Technology Organization groups.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • A high degree of initiative and personal responsibility (“ownership”) for assignments.

  • Ability to effectively multi-task and prioritize workload.

  • Experience with SQL and other programming languages is encouraged.

  • Experience working in an Agile environment desirable.

  • Supportive and participative team member with a high level of personal initiative and responsibility.

  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft tools – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, TEAMS, SharePoint, and Outlook.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the PowerPlan system.

  • Support the monthly close. Analyze, explain, and resolve any questions or problems encountered during the close.

  • Use business knowledge, accounting expertise, analytical skills, and experience to recommend and implement robust, best practice solutions.

  • Resolve system problems in a timely manner by investigating problems using analytical skills, programming skills and, when necessary, working with the software vendor. Follow Southern Company change management policies and work with our Business Process Managers and Technology Organization to implement any required changes to the system.

  • Perform system configuration and processing requests from the internal clients we serve.

  • Work with internal and external auditors in support of automated and manual controls.

  • Understand the new Enterprise Foundations environment and its impact on the PowerPlan system.

  • Obtain a detail understanding of interfaces both into and from the PowerPlan system. Use expertise and analytical skills to maintain these interfaces.

  • Learn PowerPlan Modules

  • Expand your knowledge of the PowerPlan suite of modules. Acquire expertise in multiple areas of the Enterprise Foundations enterprises.
