Jacobs Interior Designer - security clearance required in Birmingham, Alabama

The Interior Designer will have essential multi-discipline team representation and be self-motivated, well organized, and customer focused. This position will be working with our Federal group as an owner’s representative on exciting projects.

The Interior Designer shall provide support in project planning, quality assurance, and a capacity to support facilities projects, including, but not limited to, construction, design/build, architecture and engineering, space management, facilities management, real estate, and leasing of large and complex construction projects. The Interior Designer shall participate in the design and construction processes and shall support the project during mobilization, site preparation, construction, fit-out, commissioning, and occupancy.

General responsibilities include:

  • Provide support as a consultant in the establishment of space and furniture design standards and criteria for construction projects. Assist in the development of the client’s POR.

  • Provide on-site field survey measurements and verification including documentation of space, equipment, workflow, required adjacencies, communication and organizational requirements. Provide recommendations based on observations.

  • Prepare space and stacking plans to accommodate functionality, mission, and adjacency requirements.

  • Prepare blocking plans, schematic and conceptual designs, and design intent drawings in AutoCAD. Ensure drawings comply with the Bureau’s Program of Requirements (POR), Campus Design Guides and Construction Standards.

  • Perform design reviews and submit technical comments in required format.

  • Assist with the development of furniture selection, layout, and procurement planning.

  • Review furniture proposals, documents, drawings, and specifications for accuracy and ability to meet Bureau requirements. Provide comments and/or recommendations as necessary.

  • Assist in punch list walk-throughs of newly constructed/renovated space to ensure the space is ready to accept furniture delivery and installation.

  • Provide support in the development of workspace standards, including designing spaces that will positively affect the health, morale, and productivity of building occupants.

  • Collaborate and assist in resolving critical and possibly controversial issues with a multi-disciplined team of architects, engineers and federal agency clients.

  • An active Secret Security Clearance is a requirement for this position; Top Secret is preferred

  • US Citizenship.

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS in Interior Design or Architectural studies) from an accredited college or University.

  • Relevant certification such as CCM or membership in IIDA (International Interior Design Association), Project Management Professional (PMP), American Institute of Architects (AIA), etc. strongly desired

  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Industry Project software packages to include but not limited to latest versions of Microsoft Project, Primavera, AutoCADD, Revit, Prolog, etc.

  • Experience with coordinating with architects and engineers to create design and construction documents.

  • Experience with reviewing design document submittals, reviewing cost and schedule estimates, collecting, preparing, and reporting programmatic information is a plus

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience coordinating trades for delivery of interior renovations.

  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in furniture procurement, selection of finishes, creation of material boards, and giving client presentations for proposed schemes

  • Experience in design-bid-build, design-build, and construction-at-risk delivery methods.

  • Ability to analyze all relevant project-related information and communicate project status and major issues in writing or verbally.

  • Demonstrated capability to read, understand, and apply standard project documents, including but not limited to: agreements/contracts, budgets, schedules, work letters, project surveys, and drawings

  • Proficient in the most current version of AutoCAD software
