Summary

Spire is seeking a Lead, Collective Bargaining to work in our (downtown) Birmingham, AL HR Department. This position’s primary responsibilities will be developing and maintaining relationships with Union leadership from three Alabama locals, while ensuring compliance with the respective Collective Bargaining Agreements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and counsel management on workforce-related issues, including: Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) interpretation/administration, discipline, policy and regulatory adherence, compensation and benefit administration

  • Support labor relations strategy and manage operational objectives including: CBA(s)/union issues, grievance process, progressive discipline, etc.

  • Develop and maintain a strong and effective relationship with union leadership, business leadership and other support departments

  • Lead role in contract negotiations by identifying issues, developing proposals, analyzing statistical data and building a business case to support the Company’s position

  • Manages compliance with collective bargaining agreements and makes appropriate interventions as needed

  • Keep abreast of labor laws and collective bargaining

  • Develop and maintain information system that tracks and analyzes grievances and other labor relations concerns

  • All other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • None

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Bachelor’s degree REQUIRED

  • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience REQUIRED

  • EX: labor relations, supervising union employees, administering collective bargaining agreements, etc.)

  • Experience conducting internal investigations or handling union grievances preferred

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Work is performed in a shared, open-office environment

  • Hybrid Working Hours: Typically, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, with the option to work remote 2 days per week following onboarding

  • Requires work during nonstandard business hours with occasional travel
