CHI St. Alexius Health is a regional health network with a tertiary hospital in Bismarck, the system also consists of critical access hospitals (CAHs) in Carrington, Dickinson, Devils Lake, Garrison, Turtle Lake, Washburn and Williston and numerous clinics and outpatient services. CHI St. Alexius Health manages four CAHs in North Dakota - Elgin, Linton, and Wishek, as well as Mobridge Regional Medical Center in Mobridge, S.D. CHI St. Alexius Health offers a comprehensive line of inpatient and outpatient medical services, including: a Level II Trauma Center, primary and specialty physician clinics, home health and hospice services, durable medical equipment services, a fitness and human performance center and ancillary services throughout western and central North Dakota.

Responsibilities

THIS POSITION IS ELIGIBLE FOR UP TO A $5000 SIGN ON BONUS

Job Summary / Purpose

Uses learned skills to properly identify patients, efficiently collect samples and properly identify specimens for laboratory testing, including non-blood specimens. Able to utilize the lab computer system, a lab PDA and printer. Assures service excellence to all our customers is the highest priority.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Performs patient identification correctly per hospital policies and procedures.

  • Performs specimen identification and collection per lab policies and procedures.

  • Performs Phlebotomy procedures/steps correctly per lab policies and procedures.

  • Performs Point of Care testing correctly.

  • Participates as a team player and exhibits teamwork.

  • Performs order entry duties.

  • Ensures that all work areas are cleaned and maintained.

  • Understands and performs all aspects of the Charge Phlebotomist position.

  • Restocks supplies as needed.

  • Performs urine drug testing correctly.

  • Verifies POC INR results in SoftLab.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Education: High school graduate. Advance coursework preferred.

Ability to use computers, printers, and a PDA with proper training.

Ability to communicate with patients in order to explain necessary procedures and answer phlebotomy related questions.

Ability to handle heavy workload while remaining calm and pleasant.

Ability to communicate with hospital staff regarding phlebotomy related procedures.

Able to multitask.

Ability to answer phone calls with proper etiquette.

Ability to utilize hospital email program and respond appropriately in a timely manner.

Ability to demonstrate positive behavior while interacting with patients, coworkers, physicians, visitors, supervisors, and all other hospital personnel.

Able to identify and distinguish color.

Physical work level of light/medium: Involves a maximum physical effort requirement of 35 pounds full material handling.

Physical work level of medium: Involves a 50 pound work level knee to waist lift.

Able to demonstrate the ability to bend, reach, and function in an awkward position, to accommodate drawing blood from an immobilized patient over a 4-12 hour shift.

Able to move about the hospital pushing a phlebotomy cart and tray with supplies and POCT devices available to draw and test patients.

Rotates work assignments and scheduled hours as required, including nights.

Takes on call assignments as scheduled.

Works under the condition that there is potential exposure to mechanical, chemical, electrical, and infectious environmental hazards associated with medical center operations.

Pay Range

$16.29 - $21.79 /hour
