Indian Health Service Medical Support Assistant - ESEP/MP in Bloomfield, New Mexico
Summary This position is located within the Division of Clinical Services, Pharmacy Branch, Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Health Center (DZHC), Shiprock Service Unit, Bloomfield, New Mexico. The purpose of the position is to provide support work to medical staff. The incumbent may be assigned for varying periods of time into one or more types of responsibilities within the medical support assistance work where the individual's skills are required. Incumbent reports to Supervisory Pharmacist. Responsibilities This position is being re-advertised to solicit additional applications. Coordinate activities of the clinic/medical facility and ensuring smooth operation of day to day services. Performs a variety of receptionist duties such as: receive patients, visitors, and telephone calls; refer calls to appropriate staff; Requests medical records; documents health care provider orders and medical data; completes and routes requests for patient activities and treatment procedures. Performs a full range of miscellaneous support duties such as receives and distributes official mail; requests medical records. Serves as a timekeeper for a designated group of employees, prepares time cards, posts hours of work and leave. Interviews patients to obtain necessary information for registration, including demographic, and insurance information and authorization. Collects and copies third party health cards and explains the billing process. Determines when it is necessary to notify Medical Records Department to initiate a new medical record or reactivate a retired patient medical record. Verifies patients' eligibility for Medicaid using State Medical Assistance System. Performs other duties as assigned that are related to this position. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples include: Obtaining demographic requirements, performing receptionist duties, entering and retrieving patient data from automated systems with patient information general clerical duties and appointment scheduling. OR 4 years of education above the high school level. OR COMBINATION EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. For GS-05, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e. beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Additional Information Per IHS policy (SGM 21-04) IHS selectees to positions located in Federally operated hospitals, health centers, and clinics must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before entry on duty or have IHS approve a medical or religious exemption. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. At least a 1-year service agreement will be required. This position has no promotion potential.
