SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY (NRM) Mechanical Process Intern in Bloomington, Minnesota

About our group: The Mechanical Process Development Team works on further developing the processes of recording head fabrication to improve Hard Disc Drive capacity and improve reliability. Our group focuses especially on the topography of the recording head transducer elements and the thin films that are applied to the Air Bearing Surface of the recording head. About the role - you will: Work with an engineering mentor to: Learn the engineering fundamentals of metrology equipment, tooling, data analysis, and statistics used in recording head development and manufacturing. Perform process & metrology improvement projects to support head overcoat thin film characterization. Receive Hands-on training on advanced high precision thin film metrology systems: Reciprocating Wear Test, Atomic Force Microscopes, X-ray fluorescence (XRF), X-ray reflectometry (XRR), Ellipsometer, and film stress metrology Create technical documentation to communicate results to the engineering community and share improvements with factories in Asia. About you: Strong practical lab skills including hands-on operation of capital metrology equipment. Data analysis experience using Excel, JMP or Minitab. Must be highly motivated and self-directed. Your experience includes: Preferred skills include: Basic understand of Contact Mechanics, Metrology Development, Statistics, Data Analysis, Imaging, Image Analysis, Process Engineering Completed at least two years of an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related engineering field. Preferred Bachelors degree and working toward Masters or Ph.D. Location: Our Normandale campus spans two suburbs, Edina and Bloomington, and serves as the Recording Head development and manufacturing arm of Seagate. The individual base wage is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Seagate also offers Interns paid time off, including 12 holidays and a minimum of 48 hours of paid sick leave. The benefits for this position are based on a 24 to 40-hour-per-week schedule for a full calendar year and may differ depending on work location and tenure with the Company.
