We are moving our headquarters to Eagan in 2025! This role is based at our current HQ in Bloomington but will move to Eagan in 2025.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position reports directly to the VP of Purchasing. The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the procurement of materials, equipment, and services for an electrical contracting company. This includes ensuring the timely acquisition of quality products at the best possible prices, while maintaining strong relationships with suppliers. The role also includes leadership and management of a team of buyers, developing strategies for improving procurement processes, and supporting a Centralized Purchasing model and other operational goals.
Supervise, train and mentor a team of buyers. Providing guidance on procurement best practices, negotiation strategies, service strategies, etc. that aligns with our Centralized Purchasing initiatives.
Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) for the purchasing team to monitor productivity, compliance, and cost savings, and provide periodic reviews.
Foster a collaborative, professional and productive work environment. Ensuring high quality and performance that aligns and supports organizational objectives.
Works with VP of Purchasing and other Purchasing Managers in regard to supplier vetting and relations locally and nationally. Strategizing with our Core Vendor Partners to support Centralized Purchasing and organizational initiatives along with individual project milestones.
Continuously evaluate supplier performance and provide timely feedback. Make recommendations for improvements or changes as necessary.
Assist in developing and executing procurement strategies that align with Centralized Purchasing initiatives and support project timeliness, budget constraints and service standards. Work closely with the project managers, estimators and field leaders to understand the project needs and communicate and deploy strategy.
Leverage advanced procurement technologies (Remarcable) to optimize purchasing processes, operational effectiveness, improve data transparency, and drive strategic decision-making.
Oversee the procurement processes of direct reports for all material, tools and equipment for projects assigned to the business units assigned to this position.
Coordinate with Finance, IT, and other internal support leaders to ensure procurement strategies meet cross-departmental needs and support broader organizational goals.
Identify opportunities to consolidate purchases within assigned business units. Also, collaborate with other Purchasing Managers to identify opportunities to consolidate across the other business units to leverage the collective volume of the organization.
Analyze purchasing and market trends to educate internal stakeholders and implement cost effective strategies.
Assist with developing and implementing analytics to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Provide regular updates on procurement activities, costs, savings and supplier performance to VP of Purchasing.
Assist VP of Purchasing and Director of Risk Management in negotiating favorable terms and conditions with distributors, manufacturers and subcontractors.
Assist VP of Purchasing and Accounting in negotiating favorable payment terms, rebates and cash discounts with Core Vendors.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Electrical, Manufacturing or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management within the electrical construction industry.
Proven track record of successful supplier negotiations and cost management.
Strong understanding of electrical components and manufacturing processes.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proficient in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy.
Proactive and results-driven with a strategic mindset.
Adaptable and capable of managing multiple priorities.

This job operates in a professional office environment.
This role regularly uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, filing cabinets, photocopiers and fax machines.
This position requires the ability to lift files and open file cabinets.

This position may occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.
