National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency IT Operations Engineer in Bluemont, Virginia

Summary IT Operations Engineers coordinate the integration, deployment, sustainment, maintenance, and operations of systems and/or services in the host enterprise architecture and NGA. They provide IT support for GEOINT operations and are accountable for the overall success of integration projects, ensuring alignment with Agency priorities and business strategies (e.g., strategic plans, life-cycle managem Responsibilities ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: NGA's Office of Expeditionary Operations (IX) seeks a self-motivated, enthusiastic IT Operations engineer with a wide range of technical education and experience to serve in the Expeditionary support Technology Branch (IXST). The IT Operations Engineer applies in-depth technical knowledge, skills, experience, and teamwork to field complex GEOINT workstations, server systems, network/SATCOM systems, and other capabilities to meet expeditionary production requirements. IX provides its partners with a full range of support and integrated solutions needed to accomplish the Director of Operations' (DO) mission. IX staff provides proactive, comprehensive support, delivered with efficiency, professionalism, and a strong focus on cost values. IX services include Information Management, Information Technology, Infrastructure, Logistics, and Facilities Management. IT Operations Engineers are primarily required to: TDY or deploy globally to proficiently and safely install and/or operate the vast array of Expeditionary Operations life support and technical capabilities to include: Vehicles, generators, trailers, tents, HVAC, satellite communications, network hardware, data storage, and computer systems. Meet TDY and deployment requirements (including medical evaluation) to be able to deploy worldwide for 60 - 180 days per year to for to support crisis events, site surveys, equipment installs, equipment recapitalization efforts, and troubleshooting or resolving issues. Participate and lead IT projects and requirements individually and/or with a team. Sustain and field NGA Deployable Systems (NDS) and associated equipment globally. Coordinate IT efforts with customers and other IT subject matter experts across the Department of Defense and US Government. Research and develop advanced solutions and capabilities that better the Expeditionary Operations Technology branch and missions at the tactical edge. Respond to short suspense taskings for technical information. Perform market research in support of recapping existing hardware and in the investigation of new and emerging technologies. Establish regular contact with high-level internal and external resources and have periodic contact with other offices, supplying or seeking information on specialized and non-specialized matters. Display tact when expressing ideas or opinions to senior leaders, customers, contractors, and other stakeholders. This position may be eligible for a RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE: selected candidates may be offered an incentive as part of the offer of employment. In addition, you are subject to a Counterintelligence Polygraph examination in order to maintain access to Top Secret information. All employees are subject to a periodic examination on a random basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Refusal to take the examination may result in denial of access to Top Secret information, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs. Employees with SCI access and who are under NGA cognizance are required to submit a Security Financial Disclosure Report, SF-714, on an annual basis in order to determine continued eligibility. Failure to comply may negatively impact continued access to Top Secret information, Information Systems, SAP, and/or unescorted access to SCIFs. NGA utilizes all processes and procedures of the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). Non-executive NGA employees are assigned to five distinct pay bands based on the type and scope of work performed. The employee's base salary is established within their assigned pay band based on their unique qualifications. A performance pay process is conducted each year to determine a potential base pay salary increase and/or bonus. An employee's annual performance evaluation is a key factor in the performance pay process. Employees on term or temporary appointments are not eligible to apply for internal assignment opportunity notices. This position is a DCIPS position in the Excepted Service under 10 U.S.C. 1601. Qualifications MANDATORY QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: For this particular job, applicants must meet all competencies reflected under the Mandatory Qualification Criteria to include education (if required). Demonstrated experience configuring, troubleshooting, and administering Microsoft Windows OS 2. Demonstrated knowledge of current standards and trends in desktop and server hardware 5. Demonstrated experience leading teams and/or projects EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: A. Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Systems Engineering, Information Science, Information Systems Management, Engineering, Engineering Management, Mathematics, Operations Research, Statistics, Technology Management, or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems, or networks. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: A minimum of 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of coursework in any area listed in option A, plus experience in IT operations, system engineering, system testing and evaluation, IT project management, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. As a rule, every 30 semester (45 quarter) hours of coursework is equivalent to one year of experience. Candidates should show that their combination of education and experience totals 4 years. -OR- C. Experience: A minimum of 4 years of experience in IT operations, system engineering, system testing and evaluation, IT project management, or a related area that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the duties associated with this work. -AND- LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS: DAWIA Certification may be required for this position; See Position License and Certification Requirements for additional details. New Acquisition Workforce members or members transferring to a different or higher skill level will have, upon position entry, thirty-six months, forty-eight months, or sixty months, depending on the DAWIA Tier required, to achieve their certification. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATION CRITERIA: In addition to the mandatory qualifications, experience in the following is desired: 1.Demonstrated experience with at least one DoD 8570 IAT Level II (minimum) certification such as: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) - Security, CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CySA) +, Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP), GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC), Security+ CE, Certified Network Defender (CND), or Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) 2.Demonstrated experience manipulating and visualizing data with Python, Microsoft Excel, or Tableau 3. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Windows image development 4. Demonstrated experience with installing production software 5. Demonstrated experience with commercial cloud services 6.
