Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Research Coordinator & Biorepository and Lab Administrator

The Research Coordinator & Biorepository and Lab Administrator reports to the Director of the Clinical Research Unit within the Division of Research. This position w orks as part of a team to initiate and optimally manage clinical research studies.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Establish liaisons between the CRU and researchers across FAU colleges, HBOI, hospital partners, and the community.

  • Coordinate and ensure the accurate execution of research protocols in accordance with HRPP, Good Clinical Practices, HIPPA and required obligations to patient/subject, Principal Investigator, research team and the sponsor.

  • Interface directly with patients/subjects, caregivers and principal investigators in support of the clinical research and clinical trials.

  • Recruit and screen potential patients/subjects for eligibility to the studies managed in the CRU. This may include gathering information from the medical records for studies involving hospital/doctors from the clinical partners, physician referral, advertisement and directly scheduling visits to screen and evaluate the patient/subject.

  • Assist with the informed consent process and ensure that the patient/subject fully understands what is required of them throughout the study.

  • Create and maintain participant charts and coordinates participant appointments for studies conducted in the CRU requiring those services.

  • Perform research procedures according to protocols as well as participate in research training offered to researchers.

  • Performs phlebotomies (if certified) and collection of other biological specimens and conduct off-site visits to collect patient data and specimens if required.

  • Assists and guides researcher coordinators of studies that have their own research team and have contracted CRU services.

  • Collect, organize and maintain source documentation and maintain the regulatory documentation for clinical trials.

  • Ensure protocols are being followed as approved by the IRB.

  • Participate in research activities by assisting with the collection of data.

  • Interact with patient/subject and families in a courteous and professional manner when applicable. Be consistent and regularly follow through with the patients/subjects reminding them of visits and compliance. Extend this courteous and professional manner to faculty and staff within FAU and collaborating institutions.

  • Establish, alongside the monitors for clinical trials, the initial site selection visit and the initiation visit. Follow up on monitor visits and the closeout visit for the study.

  • Follow EH&S and IBC procedures when applicable; assist with preparation of NIH and IRB applications.

  • Work with the CRU administrators in the feasibility assessments and billing process when required and the CRU team in maintaining and updating the unit policies and procedures.

  • Serve as backup coordinator for various studies and perform other work-related duties and complete projects as assigned.

Biorepository and Laboratory Duties:

  • Provide oversight of training for all staff using lab equipment to ensure proper use of the equipment and appropriate lab procedures.

  • Develop and maintain the procedures and policies for the FAU biorepository.

  • Maintain the lab to ensure no expired supplies are stored and all equipment is calibrated and running properly.

  • Resolve lab issues and maintain temperature logs for all specimens.

  • Schedule biohazard pickup and disposal for the entire center.

  • Order research study supplies; assist with inventory of lab/center supplies.

  • Responsible for dry ice including receiving, scheduling deliveries and maintaining records.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.

Current Research Coordinator certification by the Association of Clinical Research Professionals or Society of Clinical Research Associates for a minimum of 6 months; or if the applicant is not certified, the applicant must be willing to obtain CCRC certification after 6 months of employment.

A valid Florida driver's license required.

Salary:

$55,000 - $65,000 per year.
