Summary Statement

Provides youth transportation to and from outdoor programs and playcamps. This position is open to all interested persons 19 years of age and older who have a Class B CDL with Air Brake Endorsement. This position works up to 20 hours per week.

This position is designated as At-Will.

Essential Functions

Provides transportation for youth ages 6-12 to and from outdoor programs, playcamp locations, and other recreation activities as assigned. Ensures the safety of all passengers while being transported. Adheres to scheduled pick-up and drop-off times.

Performs basic safety inspection of the vehicle to ensure it is safe to operate. Performs routine cleaning inside the vehicle.

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • Valid Class B CDL with Air Brake endorsement with two years bus driving experience

  • Working knowledge of bus safety practices; relevant rules and regulations related to a Class B CDL.

Ability to:

  • safely operate bus with children and staff aboard;

  • navigate to various areas of the City;

  • display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public, and other organizations;

  • communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance;

  • complete assignments in a timely fashion;

  • understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations;

  • maintain prompt and regular attendance; and

  • perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Individuals must be capable of operating vehicles safely and have an acceptable driving record.

Licensing And Other Requirements

  • Valid Class B CDL with Air Brake endorsement.

Special Requirements

Applicants must be able to pass:

  • City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation Drug-Free Workplace: In accordance with the City of Boise Drug-Free Workplace Regulation, this position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to testing requirements including Post Offer Applicant Testing, Random Testing, Reasonable Suspicion, Post - Accident, etc. Applicants will be required to submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to hire. Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.

Persons in this position must have a CDL that can handle a vehicle designed to transport 16 or more passengers, including the driver.

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is rarely lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is rarely pushing/pulling up to 35 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate and rarely loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand, walk, reach, grasp, climb, and balance. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment

The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, areas of dust, odors, mist and gases, or other airborne matter. Employees will also drive a vehicle as part of this position. Work includes protected exposure to bodily fluids and chemicals.

This position works: holidays, evenings, and weekends as required.

19-Hour Temporary

All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.

4-Month Temporary

All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.

8-Month Seasonal

In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.

9-Month Temporary

In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
