Summary:

This position will have a start date of June 10, 2024.

Information Technology Services (ITS), currently has an opening for an IT Information Security Engineer Level II position in our Chinden office in Boise. This position provides essential services on the state's Cybersecurity Operations team to implement, manage, monitor, and maintain complex cybersecurity systems used to safeguard State information and associated systems.

The selected individual must possess an in-depth knowledge of a wide-range of cybersecurity technologies and operating principles in order to contribute to effective 24/7/365 cybersecurity operations. These positions will undertake threat analysis, act on known and imminent cyber threats and maintain the overall effectiveness of State cybersecurity operations, both in a reactive and proactive capacity.

Please note: The successful candidates will be required to pass multiple, comprehensive fingerprint-based background checks specific to the agencies ITS supports.

Example of duties:

  • Manages, implements, operates, and maintains advanced cybersecurity systems

  • Participates in cybersecurity incident response.

  • Evaluates and recommends solutions and mitigation strategies related to cybersecurity operations.

  • Undertakes security related scans, daily monitoring alerts, and reporting on cyber related threats and attacks.

  • Assists in the management of system and network access control.

  • Assists in cybersecurity configuration auditing for policy and compliance adherence.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • Good knowledge of cybersecurity incident response and handling methodologies.

Typically gained by at least two years of work experience in IT cybersecurity incident response and handling methodologies OR one year of work experience and two related college/vocational courses. Work experience should be within the last five years.

  • Good knowledge of authentication, authorization, and access control methods.

Typically gained by at least two years of work experience in network security OR one year of work experience and two college/vocational level courses covering security practices. Work experience should be within the last five years.

  • Good knowledge of vulnerability information dissemination sources (e.g., alerts, errata, and bulletins).

Typically gained by at least two years of professional work experience in network security OR one year of work experience and two college/vocational level courses covering security practices. Work experience should be within the last five years.

  • Good knowledge of common threats, vulnerabilities, and related mitigation strategies.

Typically gained by at least two years of work experience obtained within the last five years working in network security with routine responsibility monitoring and handling common threats, vulnerabilities, and related mitigation strategies OR one year of work experience and successful completion of at least two related college/vocational courses.

  • Experience administering cryptography and cryptographic key management concepts.

Typically gained by at least two years of work experience with the management of cryptographic keys and protecting them from loss or misuse. This encompasses generating, using, storing, archiving, and deleting keys. Work experience should be within the last five years.
