Summary Statement

At Zoo Boise, we connect our guests with animals to inspire and involve our community in the conservation of wildlife worldwide. We are currently seeking a Zoo Boise Front Gate Attendant.

Zoo Boise Front Gate Attendant:

  • Acts as a first-line cashier for Zoo Boise visitors.

  • Assists customers with various transactions.

  • This position is open to all interested persons 16 years of age and older.

  • This position works up to 19 hours per week, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

  • This position is designated as At-Will.

Essential Functions

Greets customers and provides a high level of customer service. Collects admission fees and answers customer questions. (60%)

Sells Zoo Boise memberships, reconciles cash, and provides customers with Zoo information as requested. (40%)

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time.

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • Experience working with customers and handling cash.

  • Working knowledge of Zoo operations and programs.

  • Basic math skills.

Ability to:

  • interact with customers and participants in a tactful manner;

  • provide a high level of customer service to patrons;

  • perform basic mathematical computations quickly and accurately;

  • display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of City employees, the general public, and other organizations;

  • communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance;

  • complete assignments in a timely fashion;

  • understand and comply with all rules, policies, and regulations;

  • maintain prompt and regular attendance; and

  • perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor, and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

  • 6 months experience in a customer service role.

Special Requirements

Applicants must be able to pass:

  • City of Boise background check processes which includes a criminal history check and reference checks in accordance with the City of Boise Hiring Process Regulation

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is rarely lifting/carrying up to 20 pounds. Also, the employee is rarely pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds. The noise level is frequently moderate and rarely loud. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision and peripheral vision. Employees will sit, stand, walk, reach and grasp. Position requires hand/finger dexterity.

Working Environment

The work environment will include inside conditions and outdoor weather conditions.

This position works: days, evenings, and weekends as required.

19-Hour Temporary

All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.

4-Month Temporary

All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.

8-Month Seasonal

In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.

9-Month Temporary

In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
