Summary The Organizational Location of the Position is Dental Service, in Dallas, Fort Worth and Bonham, campuses of the VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS), Dallas, TX. The primary purpose of the position is for the fabrication of conventional dental prosthesis. Responsibilities This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until October 31, 2025 or until position is filled. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be November 14, 2024, with subsequent cut-off dates every two weeks until 10/31/2025 or until the position is filled. Eligible applications received after that date will be referred at regular intervals or as additional vacancies occur on an as-needed basis until positions are filled. Applicants who are referred will be considered for 90 days, after 90 days applicants will have to reapply. A Recruitment/Relocation Incentive may be authorized for a Highly Qualified Individual Duties but not limited to: Fabricates inlays, crowns, all-gold fixed partial dentures, copings and .or frameworks for porcelain-fused-to-metal restorations. Waxes patterns paying particular attention to margins, contacts, embrasures, contours, occlusions and articulation. Designs and fabricates fixed restorations using CAD/CAM scanners and milling equipment. Invests waxed frameworks and casts and assembles by soldering if necessary. Fits castings to dies, measures and finishes the metal to gauged thickness for support of porcelain. Finishes the casting to accurate marginal adaption and precise occlusion. Polishes completed crowns and fixed partial dentures. Waxes outline of metal framework for partial dentures accurately following the design on the cast. Cast metal after burnout process has been completed. Performs all duplicating and investing procedures for the removable denture department. Selects artificial teeth of the prescribed size, shape and color, and sets up for the conventional complete and removable partial dentures in accordance with dentist's prescriptions. As dictated by workload, may work or receive cross-training in ceramics. May be assigned other duties of comparable complexity as needed to facilitate workflow and expedite patient care. Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 10/29/2025. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Use of dental laboratory material such as impression materials, plasters, stones, hydrocolloids, waxes, metals, acrylics, porcelain, and similar materials. Use of laboratory equipment such as hand tools, dental lathes, engines, hand pieces, furnaces, casting machines, presses, flasks, and related equipment. Use of Precision instruments such as articulators, surveyors and microanalyzers. Construction of dental prosthetic appliances. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one full year of graduate education where it is directly related to the work of the position meets the requirements for GS-7. (TRANSCRIPTS REQURIED). OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 9 semester hours. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED). Licensed professional dentists will be considered qualified for any grade level if they have, in aggregate the required experience in dental laboratory procedures. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Communication Project Management Technical Competence Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: This work is primarily sedentary. Some work may require movement between offices, hospitals, warehouses, and similar areas for meetings and to conduct work. Work may also require walking/standing, in conjunctions with travel to and attendance at meetings and/or conferences away from the work site. Incumbent may carry and lift light items weighing less than 15 pounds.
