Founded in 1862, John Hancock Life Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Toronto-based Manulife Financial Corporation, has been providing capital financing solutions for U.S. middle market companies for decades. In 2000, the Hancock Capital Management team (“HCM”) was established to spearhead these activities. Today, HCM is known as Manulife Investment Management Private Equity & Credit (“MIM PE&C”) and manages over $25 billion of capital. Within MIM PE&C, the Senior Credit business was established, deploying $6B+ across 200+ transactions and 100 unique PE sponsors since inception in 2017. Current AUM for the Senior Credit business totals $4B, and the team invests on behalf of Manulife’s General Account and third-party clients.

Position Summary

The Analyst will report to the Associate Director of Loan Operations, working within the Senior Credit front office operations team. This position is responsible for elements of operations, reporting, portfolio monitoring and administration for MIM PE&C’s Senior Credit business. The individual will work with other team members to maintain a scalable operations function that provides a high level of support to the organization. The role provides the candidate the opportunity to be involved with a growing business, help inspire change, and assist in implementing innovative process solutions to further support growth and mitigate risk. The ideal candidate for this role should be ambitious, have strong technical skills, and have the ability to execute timely action plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Loan administration for entire Senior Credit portfolio, providing quality control and data oversight of internal and external recordkeeping.

  • Monitoring 3rd party loan and fund administrators booking of investment activity.

  • Escalating any aged cash reconciliation breaks with custodians and/or agents.

  • Calculating and recording of investment allocations across client accounts ensuring allocation approval files are complete prior to deal closings.

  • Help oversee and manage new deal pipeline, assisting credit team with all operational aspects of the transaction process. Ensure all approvals are in place prior to closing, strong execution occurs at closing, and the proper administration of loans occur throughout their term.

  • Communicating senior loan data across different MIM PE&C and John Hancock teams.

  • Preparation of quarterly portfolio summary reporting.

  • Close interaction with numerous internal and external parties, including but not limited to, Portfolio Managers, Originators/Underwriters, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Private Markets Operations, Custodians, Trustees, Fund Administrators, Agents, etc.

  • Assisting with annual audit requests.

Qualifications

  • BA or BS degree required.

  • 2+ years of experience at an alternative asset manager or administrator, preferably working within credit.

  • An understanding of leveraged loans, preferably with knowledge of senior direct lending.

  • Candidate must show ability to communicate directly and work effectively in a dynamic work environment, including the ability to interact well with a variety of constituents (portfolio managers, senior management, investment team, lenders, auditors, etc.)

  • Ability to multi-task and balance priorities while also focusing on bringing projects to completion.

  • Strong work ethic, initiative, and attention to detail.

  • Excellent written, communication and presentation skills and a friendly, service-oriented attitude.

  • Must possess strong attention to detail, quantitative skills, and commitment to data integrity.

  • Self-directed, analytical, and able to make sound judgments.

  • Able to work independently and as a team member effectively.

Salary range is expected to be between

$60,375.00 USD - $100,625.00 USD
