GIS Environmental Department Manager- Northeast and Midwest
POWER Engineers, Inc. is seeking a GIS Environmental Department Manager under the Environmental Business Unit. The Department Manager is responsible for the overall strategic direction and management of Environmental GIS services in the region, including developing and expanding market segments through services, client management and business development, profit/loss management, personnel resource management, and technical oversight. The position may be based out of our Northeast and Midwest offices ideally in Ohio, Virginia, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, or Missouri. This position requires the ability to travel regionally to our offices.
Job Summary of Roles and Responsibilities
The GIS Department Manager will lead the Northeast and Midwest Mapping & Analysis Department. Responsibilities include managing resources, ensuring timely project execution within budget, and overseeing department operations. Ideal candidates will have experience in GIS services for infrastructure projects, including proposal development and team leadership. Opportunity to contribute to environmental projects in areas such as transmission lines, renewable energy, and permitting services.
Essential Role and Responsibilities
• Responsible for GIS sections of proposals and cost estimates with varying degrees of complexity. Plan for and participate in business development activities to identify, develop, win, and execute project opportunities and build and maintain client relationships
• Prepare and execute the department's annual business plan for the Northeast and Midwest Mapping & Analysis Department
• Oversee and manage the success of the key department metrics of revenue growth, staff chargeability, project billing and collections, and project profitability
• Ensure that plans and reports are done on schedule
o Monthly financial reports
o Monthly labor projections for staff
o Safety training goals include leading safety efforts for the team and ensure the team follows safety rules and guidelines
o Business Plans
o Employee engagement & recognition
o Lunch and Learns (at least quarterly) held by either DM or staff
• Complete bi-annual employee review process for all staff in the Department
• Provide mentorship and support to Area Leads and next-generation leadership
• Bi-weekly meetings with the Regional Manager to discuss Department needs and performance
• Facilitate inter-department collaboration on work, QA/QC, innovation, standards, and initiatives
• Develop an understanding and be aware of project-related risks. Be familiar with project risk(s) and how to mitigate risk for the Company. Be familiar with Company risk policies
• Ensure proper quality assurance and quality controls (QA/QC) for all services performed by the Northeast and Midwest Mapping & Analysis Department. Promote and monitor quality standards and practices
• Recruit great talent, while assuring they are compatible with POWER's culture.
• Assist with Division and Business Unit key initiatives
Required Education/Experience
• B.S. and/or M.S. in GIS, Geography, Biology, Ecology, or related field
• Ten (10) or more years of experience in environmental consulting in the utility or energy industry
• Five (5) or more years of GIS team leadership
• A demonstrated technical competence and project experience in mapping and analysis applicable to industrial siting and licensing or environmental permitting projects
• Experience managing staff, projecting workloads, and scheduling work
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience with MS Project and document production software
• Travel throughout the department region with potential travel throughout the U.S.

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $80K-$120K per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation, 401k, etc.
