General Statement of Duties:

Supports corporate objectives and ensures quality health care by providing physician oversight of Physical Health utilization management, care management, and Quality of Care.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer, other Associate Medical Directors and other RMHP leadership to ensure the integrity of medical and clinical decisions

  • Respect confidentiality and maintain confidences as described in the UHG Employee Handbook and acknowledged through signature by all employees. The ability to maintain confidentiality is a critical and essential component of this position

  • Provides physician input to clinical and medical services and interfaces with contracting IPAs and physicians on medical issues

  • Participate in the development and implementation of medical policies, practices, and standards for care to manager utilization and improve the quality of medical services provided by physicians

  • Provide medical expertise to clinical staff regarding complex medical cases

  • Conduct independent office reviews and Utilization Management preauthorization requests

  • Participate in the development or revisions of products to improve utilization, reduce costs, improve quality of care, and improve member health status

  • Work with individual and large physician provider groups to establish strong relationships that are conducive to the growth of the health plan and membership

  • Participate in the evaluation of new technologies and treatments related to health care and medical practices

  • May write and/or edit publications and make presentations for distribution to external medical providers, with the goals of providing unbiased, current, practical medical information and increasing medical providers' skills in critical interpretation of medical literature

  • This position may require travel. Requires independent, reliable, flexible, and on-demand, transportation at the incumbent’s expense for travel between various locations and timely arrival and departure from various locations. If the employee chooses to satisfy this requirement by driving a vehicle, the employee must meet the requirements for Colorado licensure and company requirements for liability insurance coverage

Required Qualifications:

  • MD or DO with an active, unrestricted license - Colorado preferred

  • Board Certified in an ABMS or AOBMS specialty

  • 5+ years of clinical practice experience-Intermediate or higher level of proficiency with managed care

  • 2+ years of Quality Management experience; Excellent telephonic communication skills; excellent interpersonal communication skills

  • Excellent project management skills

  • Data analysis and interpretation skills

  • Excellent presentation skills for both clinical and non-clinical audiences. Familiarity with current medical issues and practices

  • Creative problem-solving skills

  • Basic computer skills, typing, word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet applications skills. Internet researching skills

  • Solid team player and team building skills

  • Ability to travel between various locations and to timely arrive and depart from various locations

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including before and after core business hours and occasional evenings and weekends

  • Ability to work in front of a computer screen and keyboard, sitting and/or standing up to 8-10 hours per day (possibly longer if required)

  • Ability to see computer screen and work papers

  • Ability to access, research and interpret information from a variety of media (e.g., computer screen, projected images, printed material) and individuals

  • Ability to work in normal office environment conditions and with various office equipment (e.g., computer, keyboard, mouse, calculator, copier, printer, fax, scanner, telephone)

  • Ability to move to access various offices and a wide variety of meeting settings

  • Ability to perform a variety of tasks that involve standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending and twisting, occasionally climbing stairs or using an elevator, possibly reaching chest high and overhead for materials.

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $286,104 to $397,743annually. Salary Range is defined as total cash compensation at target. The actual range and pay mix of base and bonus is variable based upon experience and metric achievement. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
