South Central KY AHEC

The South Central Kentucky AHEC, housed within the College of Health and Human Services at WKU, is dedicated to promoting healthy communities through educational health career pathways. SC KY AHEC works with students, health professionals, and communities to provide resources and programs that lead to healthier communities. The South Central KY AHEC is one of eight AHEC centers in Kentucky and is part of the National AHEC Organization.

Position Description

The Assistant Project Director for the South Central KY AHEC will report to the Project Director. They will be involved in day-to-day and long-term activities of the SC KY AHEC including a broad range of administrative, managerial, leadership, planning, and operational activities to support the mission of the South Central KY AHEC.

This is a grant-funded position and therefore is dependent upon external grant support each year.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties are customary for this position but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

  • Represents the Project Director in an administrative capacity as assigned or in the Project Director's absence.

  • Assist the Project Director with budgeting and the daily financial operations.

  • Assist the Project Director with researching and applying for new funding sources.

  • Assist the Project Director with required quarterly and annual reports.

  • Assist with the preparation and presentation of information to the AHEC Advisory Board.

Health Career Coordination:

  • Create, promote, and expand health career programming for high school and undergraduate students.

  • Lead regular meetings with the Health Career and Education Specialists.

  • Develop new curriculum for health career pathways programs based on the needs of the community.

  • Train other Health Career and Education Specialists on new curriculum.

Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:

  • Ability to perform both on a team and independently.

  • Leadership skills.

  • Have good communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills.

  • Familiarity with community resources.

  • Ability to multi-task and be flexible.

  • Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions.

  • Driving is an integral part of this position. Applicants must have a current driver's license with a good driving record consistent with the WKU Policies regarding employee drivers.

    Job Requirements:

Master's degree health sciences, business/public relations, education, or related field. Or bachelor's degree AND 2 years of experience in program planning, implementation and administration.
