Responsibilities

Quality

• Develops, implements, and oversees quality production program to ensure that all manufactured products meet quality standards and/or corporate specifications. Ensures conformity of purchased material and final products to quality standards.

• Analyzes routine tests, inspection forms and/or charts to monitors all aspects of quality.

• Inspects all returned products. Investigates all customer complaints/returns and reports the findings to Department Manager and Plant Manager. Responds to customer complaints/returns. Insures that all necessary paperwork is filled out and the product disposition is completed to its final end. This may include transferring of good products back to the warehouse, transferring bad product to scrap and making all adjustments to the mainframe.

• Reviews all items in QA Quarantine to ensure actions taken to correct and prevent occurrence. Assists in the final disposition of product being held. Insures that all necessary paperwork is filled out and the product disposition is completed to its final end.

• Identifies quality problems and determines the cause in order to prevent reoccurrence. Initiates CAPAs as needed to document Corrective and Preventive Actions taken.

• Provides monthly return and quarantine reports including product disposition to Plant Manager, production managers, and corporate.

• Provides monthly production reports to Plant Manager and production managers.

• Provides quality testing for trials, customer requirements, or other projects as necessary. Prepares all necessary reports as required by customers, staff personnel and management. Provides technical assistance to Sales Department and visits customers whenever necessary. Meets with vendors, customers, quality representatives, and Berry personnel to discuss and resolve quality problems as required.

• Ensures Certificate of Analysis provided when order requires.

• Coordinates Quality Coordinator activities and quality training programs.

• Monitors, calibrates and requests maintenance as needed on Lab testing equipment.

ISO

• Ensures facility’s quality management system (QMS) is ISO 9001:2008 or relevant version compliant.

• Prepares for and represents Berry during ISO 9000 internal and external audits and/or assessments.

• Develops procedures, work instructions, and forms as needed to achieve proper QMS.

• Revises Quality Manual as needed.

• Ensures quality corrective actions, preventative actions and continuous improvement activities are documented.

SQF

• Oversees the plant’s SQF program.

• HACCP certification required.

• As SQF site practitioner, prepare for and represents Berry during internal audits and/or assessments.

• Ensures policies, procedures, work instructions, forms and records for SQF requirements are maintained.

• Responsible for validating changes to foods safety fundamentals and food safety that impacts the suppliers ability to deliver safe food

II. OPERATIONAL COMMUNICATIONS;

Ability to communicate with Sales, Manufacturing, Logistics, Corporate, other Berry facilities and customers by telephone, in person and through written and verbal correspondence. Ability to perform duties with minimal direction. Basic computer skills are needed with the ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and company software programs.

III. HEALTH AND SAFETY;

Adheres to safety policies and procedures in compliance with Berry’s guidelines. Visually inspects the entire manufacturing facility for a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  1. College degree or 3 – 5 years’ experience in related field, desirably in a manufacturing (polyethylene) environment.

  2. Firm knowledge of ISO standards with previous ISO experience (min. 2 years) in engineering or manufacturing.

  3. Previously demonstrated knowledge of Document and Data Control, Management of Quality Records, Internal Auditing, preparation of procedures and work instructions, and other quality practices.

  4. Proven ability to train and lead other employees in the implementation of a Quality System.

  5. Requires the following skills:

  6. Good communication skills.

  7. Ability to plan and organize quality system activities.

  8. Experience with training, motivating, and leading other employees.

Some quality assurance practices, as they apply to individual unique products, can be learned on the job, but overall capability in this discipline must be previously demonstrated.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Must have a thorough knowledge of mathematics, statistics and industrial practices.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Manual dexterity required with exposure to leg and back fatigue. The employee stands approximately 5 hours and frequently walks throughout the facility contacting co-workers, inspecting the manufacturing area and facilitating follow-ups. Occasional climbing/descending stairs is required to go to the upper office space for meetings and other general office duties. Also, requires climbing/descending stair-steps in the manufacturing towers to check on quality issues (tower areas reaching a height of 60 feet). Sitting, standing in one place, reaching, pushing, and pulling for general office duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions on this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is constantly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to very loud. An essential part of this position is to work in a teamwork environment to ensure safety throughout the facility. The employee is continuously exposed to temperature variances; extreme heat during the summer and cold temperatures during the winter.
