This position works within the Advising and Career Development Center (ACDC) and reports to the Associate Director for Academic Advising.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted, and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.

Academic Advising

  • Maintain an advising case load of students with a declared major in one of the five academic colleges

  • Supervise, train, and evaluate 2 to 5 Academic Advisors

  • Provide advising to current students considering and declaring majors within assigned academic area

  • Work with students, faculty, and staff within the Division of Academic Affairs and the Division of Enrollment & Student Experience to improve overall advising practice

  • Provide leadership and serve as a liaison between the ACDC and academic colleges

  • Within assigned academic area, manage and analyze student data pertaining to major declaration, retention, progress to graduation, etc.

  • Create targeted interventions and programs for students in assigned academic area that need extra support persisting to graduation

  • Provide advising oversight and support for one of the academic colleges during Topper Orientation Programs

  • Provide oversight for the change of major process for students transiting between academic colleges

Retention Initiatives

  • Review data of gateway courses that prevent students from being admitted into their declared major of choice

  • Meet with students that are not making academic progress in selective admissions majors

  • Conduct follow-up appointments with students that are reported on the WKU early alert system

  • Collaborate with campus partners to create programs that provide holistic support for students at risk of not being retained

Other Advising Duties

  • Assist in creating policies and programs for students changing majors

  • Implement and revise, as necessary, assessment methods and practices that examine advising satisfaction and success with students and faculty

  • Provide training, in conjunction with the Associate Director for Academic Advising, to faculty and staff advisors on pertinent information from assigned academic area

  • Provide advisor training for new faculty and staff as required

    Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Increasing levels of experience in the areas of orientation, advising, persistence, and student development at the postsecondary level

  • Experience working with and supporting diverse populations

    Additional Information:

Salary Range: $40,000 - $42,000
