Summary
The Coordinator for Student Engagement and Programming for the Thompson Scholarship Programs assists in managing the day-to-day operations of the Thompson Working Families Scholarship and manages some key projects within our program. This person will provide holistic support to a caseload of Thompson Scholars, helping scholars connect with people and resources across campus, engage in personal and professional development opportunities in and outside of our program, and find meaningful service opportunities to give back and contribute to the public good. They will communicate with and support students in understanding scholarship requirements and track completion of these requirements throughout the year. As part of the broader Thompson Scholarship team, this individual will support the overall department goals and initiatives of the Thompson Working Families Scholarship program, specifically relating to 80% retention and 80% graduation requirements set by the Thompson Foundation.
Essential Functions
Advising/Mentoring
• Meet regularly with assigned caseload of scholars to monitor academic progress and performance, providing support and guidance via one-on-one meetings, group sessions, and additional outreach
• Build trusting relationships with a diverse student population, many of whom are low-income and first-generation
• Support students in identifying academic and co-curricular experiences aligned with their academic, personal, and career interests
• Serve as the BGSU Outreach Coordinator for caseload - monitoring and communicating about Early Alerts, Mid-term Grades, Not Enrolled status, etc.
• Serve as an advocate for each scholar and address issues in a timely fashion
• Refer students to appropriate BGSU and non-BGSU support offices and/or organizations as needed to support student success
• Ensure that students are working with an assigned college/academic advisor on course planning, major selection, degree requirements, university policies and procedures, and career planning related to students' academic goals and registration procedures
• Serve as an advising resource for immediate help with students' questions in person, over the phone, or through email
• Communicate with Financial Aid, College Offices/Academic Advising, Marvin Center for Student Leadership & Civic Engagement, and other areas to support students as they work towards meeting scholarship requirements
• Develop more intensive advising meetings based on scholarship standing and at-risk metrics
• Monitor and communicate with students regarding their completion of scholarship requirements
• Maintain and update student files and records in accordance with federal, state and university regulations
Administrative/Programming
• Collaborate with Director regarding long term planning for programming and related outreach including assessment and updating.
