Microsoft Corporation Critical Environment Technician Manager – Regional Operations Center in Boydton, Virginia

As a Critical Environment Technician Manager ROC, you will be the strategic leader in our Regional Operations Center, overseeing the critical environment technicians and ensuring the highest standards of operational excellence. Your role will be pivotal in driving the performance and reliability of our data centers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a Critical Environment Technician Manager ROC, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities

People Management

  • Managers deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring.

Operations Management

  • Enhances, develops new, or follows pre-existing emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Leads quarterly incident drills.

  • Reviews shift handover from outgoing team and approves shift handover for oncoming team.

  • Acts as a mentor for the team and identifies candidates for succession planning.

Equipment and Systems Monitoring

  • Serves as a subject matter expert and escalation point of contact and can work on advanced tasks independently.

  • Oversee the day-to-day workload and always maintains minimum operating headcount, escalating deviations as they arise.

  • Ensures team training is scheduled and completed on time.

  • Monitors critical environment equipment via HMI and utilizes telemetry, control systems, and other platforms to monitor site status, analyse past and current events, as well as other processes, and can identify all alarms. Escalates per applicable policies and standards.

  • Performs alarm interpretation and can assess customer impact across the region through data collection within SLA timeframes.

  • Liaise globally with local operations to communicate and escalate equipment failure as well as to review ongoing high-impact maintenance.

  • Utilizes software applications to create tickets for unplanned events threatening customer impact. Will add required data, trends and reports to these tickets to support local investigation and RCAs.

  • Advises colleagues on inspection and supervision of issues.

  • Provides consultation to colleagues in troubleshooting systems and problems.

  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Critical Environment Culture

  • Understands, follows, and ensures safety and security requirements and business processes and procedures to properly perform work in a safe, quality, and reliable manner in accordance with applicable federal, state, local, and Microsoft requirements.

  • Maintain safe working conditions and escalate immediately when unsafe working conditions are observed.

  • Participates in required meetings, training, drills, and necessary handoffs.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND 3+ years’ experience in mission critical services work/applied learning experience (e.g., high availability assembly / manufacturing / critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields)

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including shift assignments during non-standard business hours that may include evening, nighttime, weekends and/or holidays.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND 5+ years mission critical services experience (e.g., high-availability assembly/manufacturing/critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields)

  • OR associate degree/technical trade certification (e.g., military, trade school), or higher-equivalent education AND 5+ years mission-critical services experience (e.g., high-availability assembly/manufacturing/critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or related fields) or equivalent experience.

  • 1+ year(s) people management experience.

Critical Environment Ops M3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $74,100 - $165,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $104,000 - $182,200 per year.
