Position Summary

The City of Bozeman is now accepting applications for a talented and creative Digital Media Coordinator to join the Communications Team. Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

  • Designs, creates, and produces visual content for City communications through graphic design, photography, and videography;

  • Uses various forms of creative media such as infographics, photography, videos, social media graphics, mailers, flyers, brochures, and other marketing and promotional materials as a means of visual storytelling to educate residents in visually engaging ways and further the City’s brand;

  • Films, edits, and uses stock footage and graphic media to produce videos for social media, advertising, and website;

  • Photographs or films city locations and staff/officials for use in materials;

  • Ensures all existing and new media adheres to the City’s brand standards and visual guidelines;

  • Assists in updating and improving brand standards and visual guidelines as needed;

  • Assists departments and divisions to develop written content into visually engaging content;

  • May assist or advise in the creation of written content, scripts, and overall messaging;

  • Participates in the development of large or longer-term strategic communications campaigns;

  • Operates modern office machines and equipment including personal computers, printers, copiers, calculators, and fax machines; routinely uses a full range of word processing and computer software applications;

  • Provides needed information and demonstrations concerning how to perform certain work tasks to new employees;

  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems;

  • Attends meetings, conferences, workshops, and training sessions and reviews publications and audio-visual materials to become and remain current on principles, practices, and new developments in assigned work areas;

  • Responds to citizens’ questions and comments in a courteous and timely manner;

  • Communicates and coordinates regularly with appropriate others to maximize the effectiveness and efficiency of interdepartmental operations and activities;

  • Performs other duties consistent with the role and function of this classification.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Graphic Design, Fine Art Design, Visual Communications, Video Production, or a related field; and

  • Some (2- 4 years) experience creating graphic design and video content, government experience preferred; or

  • Any combination of experience and training which provides the equivalent scope of knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge and experience with developing graphic design content, short and long-form video, photography, and other forms of visual mediums;

  • Thorough knowledge and experience with graphic design and video editing software such as Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Premier Pro and Final Cut Pro;

  • Thorough knowledge and experience with designing documents in Microsoft Office Suite;

  • Thorough knowledge and experience with brand and design standards;

  • Some knowledge and experience using platforms and various mediums to reach, engage with, and inform members of the public;

  • Some knowledge of or ability to quickly learn applicable ADA laws and accessibility best practices related to print materials, websites, and captioning;

  • Some knowledge of or ability to quickly learn the function of services within the public sector, particularly within a municipal government;

  • Some knowledge of or ability to quickly learn the overall functions, duties, and responsibilities of assigned division;

  • Some knowledge of office procedures, practices, and equipment;

  • Some knowledge of office filing systems and procedures, including electronic databases;

  • Some knowledge of good phone etiquette and practices;

  • Ability to work independently level;

  • Ability to deal with a wide range of persons, including situations in which individuals may be upset over some issue involved with City activities and policies;

  • Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;

  • Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions;

  • Ability to operate a personal computer using standard or customized software applications appropriate to assigned tasks;

  • Ability to use logical and creative thought processes to develop solutions according to written specifications and/or oral instructions;

  • Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with accuracy and speed under the pressure of time-sensitive deadlines;

  • Ability and willingness to quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology;

  • Ingenuity and inventiveness and the use of the appropriate levels of discretion in the performance of assigned tasks;

  • Consistently performs assignments in accordance with the City’s Core Values of Integrity, Leadership, Service and Teamwork.

Required Special Qualifications

  • May be required to possess a valid Driver’s License and obtain a Montana Driver’s License within 60 days of employment;

  • Offers for employment are conditional upon satisfactory response to post conditional offer process.
