Overview

The Vermont Department of Health Brattleboro District Office has a dynamic opportunity for an enthusiastic and organized Nutritionist who is passionate about improving community health and providing excellent nutritional counseling and breastfeeding support to individuals enrolled in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) supplemental nutrition program. The ideal candidate will work as part of an inter-disciplinary team of public health professionals that are focused on making positive impacts on the health and well-being of community members in Windham County, VT.

\ Public Health Nutritionists provide nutrition counseling services to a diverse caseload of clients enrolled in WIC. In addition, the position engages in community outreach, education, and partnership building with other organizations focused on working with low-income families.\ Vermont Department of Health is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the department\'s diversity and commitment to foster an environment of mutual respect, acceptance and equal opportunity. \ Job duties may include, but are not limited to:\ 1. Conduct nutrition counseling and nutrition education for families enrolled in WIC\ 2. Develop and maintain internal and external collaboration, communication, and partnerships to improve health outcomes across the life span\ 3. Obtain and use nutrition assessment data (anthropometric, biochemical, clinical, dietary, and socioeconomic information) to provide individualized client nutrition counseling; identify potential barriers and develop, implement, and evaluate care plans for WIC participants\ 4. Become a content expert in nutrition needs relating to women, infants, and children\ 5. Ability to work with people from various backgrounds and cultures, including individuals with limited English proficiency\ 6. Working knowledge of the WIC Program including eligibility, benefits, along with local, state, and Federal policies and procedures pertaining to nutrition assistance\ 7. Provide breast/chest feeding support to clients
