OVERVIEW OF ROLE:

Work under direct supervision of manager and/or an experienced colleague to lead sensory tests and to assist in completing project work. This role will focus on projects where descriptive analysis is the primary tool, with the opportunity to build skills by working on larger scale projects and consumer guidance testing.

Lead and moderator for the NHSc Descriptive Analysis Panel under the direction of the principal scientist including panelist performance tracking, panelist training and coordination with panel leader and lab staff to ensure the panel is trained and ready for each week’s projects.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Working with the lead scientist, explore and define the most appropriate Sensory Evaluation methodologies and techniques to be used to address project objectives

  • Participate in product tastings including technical tasting within projects

  • Plan (with the lead scientist), organize and run panel sessions and sensory tests

  • Add value by translating results into actionable outcomes and recommendations to address business needs

  • Interact closely with other ISI scientists to integrate sensory and consumer data within projects

  • Execute descriptive panel projects; includes training panelists, project design, analysis and interpretation of results. As needed, assign activities to technician(s) on tasks associated with execution of assigned project.

  • Work with the Principal Scientist to design training programs which address panelist performance gaps, work with lab staff to execute

  • Participate in informal tasting to provide guidance as needed.

  • Responsible to follow and uphold all Food Safety, Food Quality, Occupational Safety, Health and Environment policies and procedures as pertains to role.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree, preferably in degree in Sensory Science, Food Technology, Food Science or equivalent

  • 3+ years of experience in a wide range of sensory analysis and consumer product testing techniques and their applications and a BS degree

  • 2+ years of experience within sensory and/or consumer testing, in a consumer-packaged goods or related business and Master degree

  • PhD from an accredited sensory and/or market research learning institution with limited on-hand experience

The approximate pay range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as geographic location.
