Job Summary
This is an entry level position to become a qualified as a member of the Fire Brigade, Confined Space Rescue, Medical Emergency Response, and Hazardous Material response Teams. Fire Technician Jr’s perform fire prevention compliance walkdowns and act as a fire watch for impairment fire protection systems, structures and components all while completing the necessary on the job training qualifications to become a Fire Technician.

Job Description
Obtain and maintain Fire Responder Qualifications by completing the initial training program, physical ability testing, fire drills, live fire training, and quarterly classroom training.
Complete Hazardous Material Technician and Confined Space Rescue Training.
Respond to Fire, Medical, Hazardous Material, and Confined Space Incidents as directed by the Fire Protection Shift Supervisor.
Perform Fire Prevention Walkdowns that includes the stations Control of Combustible Materials and Hot Work Programs to ensure compliance with the Fire Protection Program Licensing Basis and procedures.
Perform Fire Watch Activities for impaired Fire Protection Systems, Structures and components.
Complete on the Job Training (OJT) and Task Performance Evaluations (TPE) to work towards obtaining the necessary qualifications to become a Fire Technician.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR FP TECH, JR:
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience:
- 1 year previous Firefighting Experience.
Licenses/Certifications:
- State of Michigan Firefighter 1 and 2.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
State of Michigan Medical license (MFR, EMT-B, or Paramedic) preferred.
Maintain Annual Fire Responder Qualifications which includes but not limited to annual fire drills, live fire training, quarterly classroom training and annual physical ability testing.
Computer Skills proficiency.

- High School Diploma or GED.
Work Experience requirement listed below:
- 1 year of experience as a Fire Protection Technician Jr. and able to perform all requirements/tasks of the position.
Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below:
- State of Michigan Firefighter 1 and 2.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Physical demand level is Heavy (exerting 50 - 100 lbs. of force occasionally, 20 -25 lbs. of force frequently, 10 -20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects).
State of Michigan Medical license (MFR, EMT-B, or Paramedic) preferred.
Maintain Annual Fire Responder Qualifications which includes but not limited to annual fire drills, live fire training, quarterly classroom training and annual physical ability testing.
Meet Qualifications of a Senior Fire Technician.
Computer Skills proficiency.
Must establish & maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe driving distance to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Plant.
Hourly range posted from minimum - mid-point:
- FP Tech, Jr - FP Tech: $25.58 - $29.05
