Katmai Fiber Optic Technician in BRILLIANT, Ohio

SUMMARY

Supports the installation, repair, or modification of fiber between two or more sites. Creates and maintains connections for telecommunications through telephone, high-speed internet, and televisions, etc.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installs and maintains fiber optic cables and provides technical assistance in the designing and testing of fiber optics.

  • Designs, installs, operates, maintains, tests and repairs telecommunication networks in a variety of environments (e.g., underground, indoor, and aerial).

  • Works in collaboration with project stakeholders and in accordance with guidance to plan installations.

  • Terminates cable utilizing a variety of connectors.

  • Performs testing utilizing Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR), Power Meter/Light Sources, and Visual Fault Locators (VFL), as required.

  • Reads and interprets engineering documentation and demonstrates an understanding of fiber counts and colors.

  • Records and documents testing per customer specifications.

  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two (2) years of related experience required.

  • Associates degree required.

  • Experience with installation, repair, or modification of fiber between two or more sites.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks (U.S. citizenship required).

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex fiber optic issues efficiently.

  • Attention to detail in reading and interpreting engineering documentation and performing fiber optic testing and installation.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to document and report technical information clearly and effectively.

  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in varying environmental conditions and on different types of projects.

WORK SCHEDULE

Full-time. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project.

TRAVEL

The expected travel time is less than 25%.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Must have or be able to attain a valid state driver’s license and be insurable on the company’s automobile insurance policy. Driving, with or without accommodation, may be required when traveling for training and/or short occasional amounts of local driving. The expected driving time is less than 25%.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in various settings, including outdoor and indoor environments. The role may require working in different locations, including remote sites, client facilities, and installation areas. Employees may be exposed to a wide variety of weather conditions, as well as differing levels of noise, vibration, and physical hazards depending on the site. The work involves interaction with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities, and abilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position consists of seeing up close, walking, standing, and occasionally sitting for long periods. It also includes bending, stooping, crouching, and lifting up to 30 pounds. Frequently uses hands/fingers for handling tools, equipment, and cables.
