About the Organization:

Engineering Services designs, builds, and sustains technology that powers DE&E Technology’s worldwide content production and distribution platforms. We contribute to a series of cross-functional services and technologies, including Quality Engineering, Observability, Developer Platforms, Broadcast Infrastructure and Software, and Networking. The Quality Engineering team validates all Disney-built software before production, including web, mobile, living room applications, media, services, non-consumer-facing products and more.

Job Summary:

As a member of our team, you will strive to accomplish the following goals:

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of one or more suites of test automation using a structured programming language like Java, Python, or JavaScript, and its associated pre-production execution environments

  • Contribute to the design & implementation of test automation frameworks with input from senior engineers by checking-in valuable, clean code regularly that adds new features and capabilities

  • Become a member of our Quality Engineering team, driving increasing quality through innovation, automated test creation, Manual testing when required, curiosity and thoughtful debate

  • Contribute to the successful implementation of solutions for complex technical problems with DE &ET engineering teams, and driving the deployment of Disney backend and guest-facing products at Disney Quality

Responsibilities and Duties of the Role:

  • Developing and supporting test automation frameworks, execution environments, manual testing, build systems, and reporting tools

  • Work with product and development teams to implement a full stack quality solution

  • Maintaining documentation meant for internal developer consumption as well as project contributor documentation

  • Providing end-user and developer training on automation tools and frameworks

  • Investigating and resolving any framework, tool or execution of environmental issues affecting our services

  • Becoming a core member of our Quality Engineering team, helping others increase productivity and quality through innovation, and championing the core value of Disney Quality

Required Education, Experience/Skills/Training:

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in a testing role with a mix of manual and automation duties, including designing and developing manual and automated testing of front end and backend services using a structured programming language

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experience

  • Expertise in one of the following programming languages: Node/JavaScript, Java, Python

  • Experience with system and unit testing frameworks

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to use standard software development lifecycle (SDLC) tools such as Jira and Confluence, version control systems (e.g. Git), and CI/CD tools and pipelines.

  • Organized, detail-oriented and able to deliver project tasks on time

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. Highly motivated, self-starting individual

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience shipping a production React or Node.js application

  • Experience in validation of APIs that drive mobile and web enabled devices

  • Experience developing applications on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS)

  • Experience working with Agile methodologies

  • Working knowledge of web accessibility fundamentals

  • Experience with Kafka, Amazon SQS, and Kinesis

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Spinnaker, and continuous integration/delivery systems

  • Experience developing advanced mocking mechanisms (e.g., rule-based proxies and dummy-services)

  • Experience with test suite/case/run management tools (e.g., JIRA Xray, etc.)

The hiring range for this position in Los Angeles is $112,600 to $151,000 per year, in San Francisco is $123,400 to $165,400 per year, and in Seattle or New York is $118,000 to $158,200 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
