POSITION DESCRIPTION: Performs intermediate professional accounting work in the maintenance and review of fiscal records; performs related work according to generally accepted accounting principles, established procedures, departmental guidelines, and regulatory requirements. Maintains complex fiscal records of City assets, liabilities, revenues and expenditure/expenses, applying professional accounting principles and methods. Prepares various documentation regarding accounting activities, e.g., weekly, monthly, and annual reports. Generate various complex system reports or audits calculations and ensures accuracy, e.g., billing, payroll processing, accounting processing, insurance billings. Ensures adherence to generally accepted accounting principles; ensure maintenance of proper audit trails, verification, and reconciliation actions for all processed work according to department policies and procedures. Evaluates receipts, requisitions, purchase orders, distributions, and journal entries for ensuring compliance with established regulatory standards. Performs duties of other accounting staff, if required. Performs related duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS: The position requires a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accountancy, supplemented by at least one (1) to three (3) years responsible experience in accounting work; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Senior Accountant requires additional accounting experience. Must be able to perform accounting and financial research. Must be motivated and demonstrate resourcefulness, initiative, and problem-solving skills. Must have knowledge and experience with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; Governmental Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting; Annual Comprehensive Financial Reports; and Statements of Auditing Standards. Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Access, and Word. Skilled in data analysis. Must possess a valid drivers license.
