       Location: Buildings and Grounds DepartmentHours Per Day: 8.00 Work Year: 12 Months Per Year Minimum Pay Rate: $18.00/HourClassification: Non-CompetitivePRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:This is a skilled position involving a variety of building, installation, maintenance and repair tasks requiring a good knowledge of one or more of the construction trades. Directly responsible to the Director of Facilities or the Labor Foreman. SKILLS:

  • Basic plumbing knowledge.

  • Basic HVAC knowledge.

  • Basic electrical knowledge.

  • Knowledge of safety practices and protocols.

  • Good knowledge of the use of hand and power tools.

  • Good knowledge of methods used to maintain and repair buildings and their equipment.

  • Ability to work from plans, specifications and rough sketches.

  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting.

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.

  • Ability to safely use ladders and manlifts.

  • Ability to work as a team member to complete assigned work.

  • Good judgement.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Performs a wide variety of tasks of ordinary difficulty relating to the electrical, mechanical, or construction trades.

  • Installs, maintains, repairs, replaces and rebuilds plumbing equipment and systems including, but not limited to, faucets, toilet fixtures, and drinking fountains.

  • Mixes plaster and concrete and is responsible for laying bricks and blocks, plastering walls, finishing concrete work, stone cutting, and related masonry work.

  • Installs and performs routine repairs of carpets, floors, ceilings, insulating materials, roofs, gutter systems, weather stripping, paneling, shelves, doors, windows and other parts of buildings.

  • Makes, assembles, installs, repairs, maintains, rebuilds, and refinishes furniture, floors, doors, walls, cabinets, stairs, and other wood products, equipment and structures.

  • Prepares, paints and/or refinishes wood, metal and other surfaces.

  • Installs, maintains and/or repairs upholstery, glass, clocks, meters and other miscellaneous items.

  • Oils and greases equipment such as cranes, air compressors, and air hoists and performs necessary repair work.

  • Operates automobiles, trucks, air compressors, riding/push lawnmowers, snowplows and other motorized equipment.

  • Works both independently and with other maintenance and building staff to complete assigned work orders.

  • Maintains inventories for supplies and equipment.

  • Prepares lists of tools materials and supplies to complete tasks.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Labor Foreman or Director of Facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus one (1) year of experience as a skilled workerin one or more of the electrical, mechanical, orconstruction trades.

  • The ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

  • The ability to work collaboratively with peers and colleagues.

  • The ability to carry out oral and written instructions.

  • Displays a positive attitude and builds healthy relationships with students, staff and families.

    Note: Additional experience may be substituted for the high school diploma on a year for year basis. Special Requirements: Possession of a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Operator’s license Class D is required. Candidates may be required to pass a physical examination to determine ability to perform manual labor. FLSA: Non-Exempt
