Description About the Department The Undergraduate Communications Design (UGComD) department seeks a new faculty member in ILLUSTRATION. The department offers a BFA in Communications Design with a concentration in either Graphic Design or Illustration (the cohorts typically run about 50/50). UGComD is one of the largest departments at Pratt and includes over 80 full-time and part-time faculty and around 500-600 majors. It is a lively community of accomplished and collaborative artists and designers who have thriving professional practice and/or research agendas. The student body is approximately 33% international and 67% domestic and reflects a diverse racial and ethnographic mix. Position Summary The Undergraduate Communications Design department in the School of Design at Pratt Institute invites applications for a full time tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor/Associate Professor rank to begin Fall 2025. The ideal candidate is an inventive, experimental, tech-forward thinker and maker who values both the fundamentals of visual communication (illustration-forward) while also expanding the discipline to be more inclusive and community-minded. Once hired, the candidate will be expected to teach required integrated courses in the curriculum (studios and seminars) that include both graphic design and illustration students, as well as illustration-specific courses.
