We reach more than 73,000 individuals and families, including almost 13,000 youth. CAMBA serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are in living in poverty, reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.
The CAMBA Education Center (CEC) offers ESOL classes primarily to individuals who are at least 16 years old, who are not enrolled or not required to be enrolled in the New York City public school system, and who live or work in the Flatbush/East Flatbush communities of Brooklyn, New York. Each year, over 1,000 people from Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, and Latin America enroll in our ESOL classes. In general, we provide our English learners with the type of educational, case management, career counseling, and technical services that can help them realize their family, educational, employment, and/or other personal goals.
Position: GED/IELCE Program Coordinator
Reports To: Supervisor of Student Affairs
Location: 10 Snyder Avenue (aka 955 Flatbush Avenue) – 3rd Floor
What The GED/IELCE Program Coordinator Does:
Comply with any and all Federal, State, City, and CAMBA polices intended to protect the security and privacy of individually identifiable health information.
Facilitate orientation activities for GED and IELCE program applicants.
Refer GED and IELCE students to appropriate CAMBA programs or city agencies for immediate assistance with their socio-economic needs (e.g., food, clothing, housing, health, city/state identification card, immigration/legal services).
Act as student liaison/student advocate with outside organizations when helping students meet urgent needs.
Accompany students to educational, medical, social service appointments as needed.
Assist students in completing applications for benefits and services.
Follow-up with students and with referral organizations regarding student contact and progress with referral organization.
Provide pre and post online assessment to GED applicants and students.
Assist in placing GED students in appropriate classes based on their educational needs.
Assist in placing IELCE students in appropriate classes based on their English proficiency levels and job training interests.
Schedule GED students for the New York State High School Equivalency exam.
Assist recipients of the state’s High School Equivalency Diploma in meeting post-secondary goals, including enrolling in training programs, applying to college, and entering employment.
Collaborate with IELCE English teachers and job training providers to help ensure students complete their program successfully.
Collaborate with contracted job trainers in scheduling EILCE students for credential examinations.
Assist IELCE recipients of job training credentials in preparing for employment opportunities and meeting employment goals.
Help ensure the Computer Lab is appropriately maintained and prepared for usage by CAMBA staff and students.
Create and maintain student case management files.
Work with students to overcome barriers to their goals and to move toward self-sufficiency; recommend and implement strategies to persuade students to participate more fully in this process.
Monitor students' progress toward their goals via regularly-scheduled telephone contact, email, and/or face-to-face office visits.
Record meetings and outcomes in progress notes.
Attend professional development/training sessions offered by the New York City Regional Adult Education Network (NYC RAEN).
Conduct outcome surveys as scheduled to collect feedback from students who have exited the program.
Review the needs of assigned students periodically and update their records as appropriate.
Provide all required information for weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
Plan, coordinate, and facilitate social/peer support events, including group meetings for students.
Input student data and student progress information into required database as requested.
Minimum Education/Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree required.
Other Requirements:
At least one (1) year of successful experience in case management, counseling, or a related field.
Experience working with New York City systems, including public assistance, child welfare, education, and housing.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Literacy in other Microsoft Office Suite products.
Bachelor's degree in Social Work (or related field) preferred.
Bilingual proficiency in either French, Haitian Creole, or Spanish preferred.
Compensation: $48,000-$50,000 annually
When salary ranges are listed, the range would represent the low and high end for the applicable position & program. The salary offered would be based on various factors unique to each program and candidate. This includes but is not limited to experience, education, budget and/or program size, internal equity, skills and other factors that may be required for the position and organization.
Status: Full-time (35 hours per week) (Mon., Tues. & Fri. 9:00AM-5:00PM & Wed. & Thurs. 12:30 PM-8:30 PM)
