Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our geoenvironmental and geotechnical practice in the Brooklyn, NY area. This position is a field-based position at an active construction project site. Our ideal candidate will apply their academic knowledge and practical experience to real-world situations related to contaminated site assessment & remediation, bulkhead installation & shoreline stability, and environmental due diligence while further developing the business skills needed for a successful consulting career.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    Working with large, multidisciplinary teams to develop strategies to address complex problems;
  • Civil design, bulkhead design, shoreline design, and site layout;
  • Geotechnical engineering analyses such as slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity, seismic, and seepage;
  • Field work associated with design and construction services. Field work may include (i) inspection of sheet pile materials, backfill materials, sheet pile installation equipment; (ii) oversight of obstruction removal, sheet pile installation, bulkhead tieback stress and installation, and vibration and optical survey monitoring by the Contractor.
  • Geotechnical and environmental site characterization;
  • Development and management of instrumentation monitoring systems;
  • Small project/task management and proposal preparation support;
  • Preparation of engineering reports, design calculations, drawings, technical specifications, and permit applications; and
  • Based on your current level of experience, you may be asked to take on task-level or project management responsibilities, along with business development, and staff mentoring tasks.
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering. (required)
  • Masters degree civil or geotechnical engineering. (preferred)
  • Professional registration (i.e., P.E. P.G.) (preferred)
Skills, Experience and Qualifications
  • At least 2 years (5+ preferred) of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Experience with modeling/design tools such as AUTOCAD, Slope/W, Vadose/W, Sigma/W, FLAC, and ARCGIS. (preferred)
  • Regular fieldwork and overnight travel. (required)
  • Excellent writing and communication skills. (required)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing may be required.
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)

Below are the potential compensation ranges that we in good faith believe are applicable for this role at the time of this posting and are only applicable for jobs to be performed in the specified New York locations below. The typical base salary range for this position is just one component of Geosyntec's total compensation package for employees. Actual compensation will be determined based on education, experience, skill set and location.

  • Minimum Salary: $76,135/yearly
  • Maximum Salary: $116,485/yearly
