Job Description: Porter / Maintenance Worker

Position: Porter / Maintenance Worker

Reports to: Facilities Manager

Job Summary:

The Porter / Maintenance Worker is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and overall appearance of the school facilities, providing efficient and effective caretaking support to our properties including ensuring the security and general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained in accordance with the required standards. This includes cleaning common areas, classrooms, and restrooms, as well as performing minor maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate will have a strong work ethic, attention to detail, basic mechanical aptitude, and a positive attitude. This position is full-time Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-4:30 PM

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cleaning:

  • Sweep, mop, and scrub floors.

  • Dust and wipe down surfaces.

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms.

  • Empty trash and recycle bins.

  • Clean windows and mirrors.

  • Maintenance:

  • Repair and replace light bulbs.

  • Assemble & move furniture and equipment.

  • Classroom & event setup & breakdown

  • Assist with minor repairs, such as fixing leaky faucets or clogged drains, patching & painting walls, ensuring doors & locks operate properly, repairing furniture & fixtures

  • Light plumbing & electrical, painting, respond to Facilities-related emergencies

  • Conduct periodic inventories of supplies & equipment

  • Responsible for all planned and unplanned preventative maintenance.

  • Assist with deliveries and general portage duties when required.

  • When needed, Daily opening and closing of facility.

  • Safety:

  • Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.

  • Use appropriate safety equipment.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in cleaning or maintenance.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Must be a "self-starter" who will be proactive in maintaining and cleaning the space

  • Mechanical aptitude, working knowledge of hand & power tools a plus

  • Excellent communication skills.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects up to 75#

  • Competent at basic building repairs and maintenance.

  • Use of small industrial/electrical/mechanical equipment.

  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures and precautions

  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed.

  • Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems

  • Participation in a weekly maintenance conference call with maintenance department

  • Must have clean driver’s license
