Robert Half Tax Accountant (Individual Tax) in Brooklyn, New York
Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Accountant specializing in individual taxation for our client in Brooklyn, NY. This role focuses on the preparation and processing of individual, partnership, and trust tax returns, along with maintaining financial accuracy and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and experience in various aspects of tax accounting and data reconciliation.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Return Preparation: Accurately process individual, partnership, and trust tax returns, including gift tax and foundation returns.
Data Entry & Financial Records: Input financial data (e.g., 1099s, K-1s, W-2s) into accounting systems with precision and timeliness.
Reconciliation & Adjustments: Reconcile 1099s to trial balances and perform necessary adjusting journal entries.
Quarterly Estimates: Prepare quarterly tax estimates and vouchers, track filing statuses, and manage rejections.
E-Filing Management: Oversee the e-filing of tax returns, extensions, and estimates, and prepare paper-filed returns when needed.
Partnership Calculations: Maintain basis calculations for partnerships exiting during the current year and assist with true-up calculations and related tax forms.
Account Updates: Analyze new and closed accounts, update the accounting system, and track accounts as required.
Tax Information Requests: Assist with tax information requests and coordinate with the administrative team for follow-ups.
1099 Processing: Order 1099 software, review 1099 MISC forms, and manage the rollover of tax returns in the software, including unused gift tax returns.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification is a plus.
Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in individual, partnership, and trust taxation.
Proficiency in tax software and accounting systems (e.g., UltraTax, ProSystem, QuickBooks).
Strong understanding of tax compliance and regulations, including IT-204LL filings and 1099 requirements.
Excellent analytical skills with the ability to reconcile financial data accurately.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with administrative teams.
