MMD Medical, A Velosity Company is searching for an Assistant Controller at our manufacturing facility in Brooklyn Park, MN. The Assistant Controller is primarily responsible for the timely and accurate financial close of MMD Medical, a subsidiary of Velosity. The Assistant Controller will work closely with Velosity Management in supporting the goals and objectives of the business. The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in supporting the company's annual financial statement audit, 401k audit, annual tax return and other compliance related needs. Reports to: Corporate Controller The typical pay range for this role: $102,588 - $153,882 This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The compensation that will be offered to the successful candidate will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography, internal equity and other relevant factors. Responsible for all month-end close activities including, but not limited to, preparing and/or posting journal entries, account reconciliations, intercompany support, standard report generation and first level review and analysis. Lead/assist with the development and maintenance of an effective controls environment to minimize risk of fraud, theft, misappropriation of funds, etc. Manage all aspects of the general ledger including account maintenance and period/annual close. Lead, support and grow MMD Medical Accounting Associate within AR / AP functions. Provide monthly, quarterly and annual analysis. Assist with the development and maintenance of budgets and forecasts. Research accounting issues for compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and provide technical accounting guidance when needed. Assist with the on-going development and improvement of accounting processes. Analyze cost variances. Provide support for inventory cycle counting and other inventory count activity. Assist with the preparation, data and support gathering, schedule creation and other tasks required for the annual financial statement audit and tax filings. Evaluate operations with the goal of efficiency gains, removal of redundancy or waste and overall profitability improvement. Oversee maintenance of fixed asset files within the fixed asset system as well as all supporting documentation. Assist in the development, monitoring and maintenance of effective and efficient written procedures. Requires frequent interface with management, production, sales and engineering. Obtain a strong understanding of the Epicor ERP system and how it interacts with the entire business operation. Other ERP's used include IQMS and JobBoss. Assist Accounting team where required, which may include, but not limited to; payroll, treasury, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, etc. This encompasses regular troubleshooting of matters as they arise and processing backup. Work effectively with all levels of company personnel ncluding staff, management and executive management. Other tasks as assigned by the Velosity Corporate Controller and/or CFO. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting CPA accreditation (Active or Inactive) Valid identification and the ability to work legally in the United States A minimum of eight years of experience, preferably within an international, national or large-regional accounting firm; or a combination of public and private experience. Proven ability to execute a disciplined month-end close including journal entries and reconciliations. Manufacturing environment experience including inventory reserve analysis and standard costing/analysis Proven leadership including direct supervision; this position currently manages one employee. Excellent organizational and attention to detail skills; effective problem solving, critical thinking and interpersonal skills. The ability to multitask and work independently with little established processes; think through and implement new accounting, analysis and reporting processes. Communicate with both internal and external customers in a professional and respectful manner. Excellent knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles; proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint. General understanding of ERP/business operating systems. Proven leadership abilities; work independently with limited supervision; solve practical problems, work cooperatively and effectively with customers, vendors and other departments within Velosity and its affiliates. Self-motivated, goal-oriented and can work in a fast-paced environment. Intellectual curiosity and the willingness to question existing processes and drive continued improvement. Physical & Mental Demands: Walking is required within the office/shop areas. Sitting, standing, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, and fingers are physical requirements. Must have correctable eyesight and good depth perception. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Must be able to walk, sit and occasionally climb and balance. Must be able to lift 10 pounds and move objects in a safe manner using proper equipment. Must have dexterity with hands. Must be a team player and understand role of accounting is that of a service organization. Able to prioritize multiple tasks and complete them on a timely basis. Work Environment: This is a non-smoking, professional manufacturing shop with normal lighting and climate control. This position may require one to move throughout the shop and office and may be subject to airborne contaminants and chemical odors as would be customary in an injection molding/ Precision Machining shop. Protective Clothing Required: When in certain locations of the facility, eye and ear protection are required. Closed-toed/ Slip resistant shoes are also required in certain locations.
