Responsibilities Hours for this role are Day and Evening shifts and every other weekend The Health Unit Coordinator serves as a resource for unit nursing staff, patients, and visitors by assisting with care coordination, providing information, and securing assistance. The Health Unit Coordinator is expected to provide exceptional customer service. This is done in a manner that reflects our mission, vision, and values. Responsibilities and Accountabilities: Performs coordinating functions accurately and efficiently. Greet patients and visitors and provide them with direction and information. Maintains unit information sources such as care assignments. Unit and patient needs are prioritized and implemented according to hospital policies, procedures, and standards. Interpersonal communication is courteous, responsive, and timely. Performs accurate and timely processing of physician orders that are within scope of practice. Patient admission, transfer, and discharge are efficiently processed and documented in EHR. Provides clerical support to the unit and hospital. Demonstrates customer service approach in care and interactions with others. Participates in quality improvement activities to evaluate and improve systems and processes that support patient care. Maintain patient confidentiality. Qualifications Requires a high school diploma. A Health Unit Coordinator/Medical Secretary Certificate or Health Unit Coordinator/Medical Secretary two-year degree is preferred. At least 1 year work experience in Health Unit Coordinator or Medical Secretary position preferred. Strong communication and telephone skills. Ability to prioritize and organize tasks in fast paced environment. Computer and clerical skills. Ability to establish effective relationships with health care team members.
