The pay range is $85,500.00 - $153,900.00

As a Senior Engineer, you serve as a specialist in the engineering team that supports the product. You help develop and gain insight in the infrastructure domain. You can distill an abstract architecture into concrete design and influence the implementation. Use your technology acumen to apply and maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies within specialized area(s) of the technology domain. Evaluate new technologies and participate in decision-making, accounting for several factors such as viability within Target’s technical environment, maintainability, and cost of ownership. Initiate and execute research and proof-of-concept activities for new technologies. Manage total product, financials and forecasting. Lead the design, lifecycle management, and total cost of ownership of services. Lead and conduct code review, design review, testing, and debugging activities at the application level. Lead functional design and architecture discussions with understanding of process flows and system diagrams to enable design decisions. Participate in routine and non-routine construction, automation, and implementation activities, ensuring successful implementation with architectural and operational requirements and best practices met. Provide technical oversight and coach others to resolve complex and severe technical issues. Lead disaster recovery activities and contribute to disaster recovery planning. Embed data quality protocols throughout data acquisition, processing, storage, and operational use. Core responsibilities of this job are described within this job description. The SAVE (Stores, Assets and Vendor Experience) team directly influences the Store experience by providing excellent support services for Target technology in all Target facilities. The SAVE team leverages vendor partners to deliver on-site, hands-on tech hardware support by field technicians, as well as provide off-site repairs – either in warranty or out of warranty – for Target-owned devices and connectivity. Additionally, SAVE ships parts as “depot exchange” (“quick ship” or “hot swap”) incidents and for the majority of vendor service calls from Target’s “HQ Depot” to all Target facilities, and manages the health of spare pool inventory. One of the SAVE team’s key missions is to efficiently execute hardware fulfillment processes to ensure that Target facilities and team members have the right hardware, when they need it, in order to provide the best technology support experience for Target facilities, Target Team Members and Target Guests. This Sr. Engineer role within HQ Depot is responsible for using knowledge gained from your own experience combined with directions from technology owners to screen technology returned from the field, and identify repair path to keep a steady, optimized quantity of hardware in circulation for service calls. You will be responsible for cross-functional collaboration with infrastructure technology owners on proper triage/screening procedures for various technology devices such as servers, network equipment (switches, routers, wireless access points), Android tablets, Point of Sale register equipment, IP cameras, Chromeboxes, digital media players, etc. You will triage/screen hardware returned from service calls in the field to identify repairs needed and work with vendors to fix and return devices to good stock. You will identify trends and jointly develop root cause fixes. This is a high impact role that directly influences and impacts the overall health of Target store technology.

About the role:

  • Collaborate with multiple business users, infrastructure partners, internal cross-functional teams and external service and repair vendors on identifying trends collected from hardware screening, and jointly planning root cause fixes

  • Scale hardware screening procedures from initial intake by technology owners, to a repeatable state for daily screening

  • Develop/build automation (process or tool) or scripts to improve efficiency and optimize throughput of screening technology hardware

  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation & knowledge base related to hardware screening in close partnership with technology owners

  • Drive to exceed operational goals related to screening hardware, prioritizing work based on highest need to keep a steady, optimized quantity of hardware in circulation for service calls

About you:

  • BA/BS or equivalent IT hardware engineering experience

  • 5+ years of infrastructure hardware designing, building, testing, supporting or engineering experience

  • Has in-depth knowledge of standard engineering technical approaches in design, build, testing, debugging

  • Hands-on experience with designing, building, testing or supporting infrastructure hardware like servers, network equipment (switches, routers, wireless access points), Android tablets, Point of Sale register equipment, IP cameras, Chromeboxes, digital media players, etc.

  • Experience with a coding or scripting language (PowerShell, Python, Java, etc.); preferably experience with creating REST APIs

  • Demonstrates a solid understanding of the impact of own work on the team and/or guests

  • Maintains technical knowledge within areas of expertise

  • Stays current with new and evolving technologies via formal training and self-directed education

  • Excellent critical thinking and communication skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Strong debugging and problem solving skills

  • Strong “hands on” skills, with an ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
