REQUIREMENTS:

Physical: Height and weight must be proportional Must have normal color vision. Pull or drag an animal offering resistance, or a dead animal. Lift large domestic animals. Climb over barriers such as fences or walls to retrieve animals. Run after at-large animals. Climb stairs, and embankments. Work outdoors in high temperatures (above 95 degrees) or in low temperatures (below 30 degrees). Work in high wind conditions, snow, or ice. Work with allergenic substances such as animal dander. Work with noxious substances such as disinfectants, animal urine or feces. The employee shall work well under pressure, meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines. The employee shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors. DESCRIPTION:

General Statement of Duties: Under general supervision, the Community Services Officer (CSO) performs a wide variety of field and office duties for the Police Department. Although Community Services Officers are required to wear a distinctive uniform and are assigned field duties, they are not peace officers and do not carry weapons. The CSO is an entry-level position into the law enforcement profession. Incumbents may desire to remain in the CSO program as a para-professional career or may utilize the experience and training gained in the program to prepare themselves for a career as a regular Police Officer.
