Hord Family Farms Sow Production Leader in Bucyrus, Ohio
At Hord Family Farms, our success relies on our people and processes. We're currently seeking a Sow Production Leader to oversee up to 6 individual sow farm locations, as part of a team that oversees all Hord sow production and reports to production management. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of swine production experience, including 3 years in leadership. Strong knowledge of sow production, animal husbandry, and standard operating procedures is essential, along with solid organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. A focus on continuous improvement and team development is key to thriving in this role.

The Hord family is in its 5th generation of family farming, with over 100 years of farming heritage. Headquartered in North Central Ohio and having satellite locations in Pennsylvania and Minnesota, Hord Farms is a pig, cow, and grain farm, striving to raise our animals with care, and utilizing modern and advanced farming practices to be efficient and sustainable.
A Day in the Life:
Champion and embody the Hord culture, vision, mission, and core values; leading by example to inspire direct reports and their teams so that all our practices align with our values and dedication to excellence.
Mentor and coach direct reports to align their objectives with organizational goals. Provide clear expectations, foster a shared vision, and create an environment where team members can thrive.
Strategically plan and set production goals for direct reports, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures through routine farm visits. Your oversight will help maintain our high standards of production and provide your reports with the guidance and development needed to be successful in managing their farm, but also their team.
Deliver consistent feedback—both formal and informal—to direct reports, ensuring that their performance aligns with the organizational goals of Hord Farms.
Promote the use of system tools to maintain accurate production records and cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
Lead efforts to implement innovative solutions and improvement protocols that enhance production outcomes and sustainability practices.
Reinforce compliance with all company and farm biosecurity and safety procedures, ensuring a safe working environment for all.
Drive team engagement and morale, developing a motivated, long-term workforce. Ensure that staffing levels are optimized across sow units to meet production demands effectively.
Full time position, 45-50hours per week with minimal travel to satellite locations as needed
What You Need:
A High School Diploma, with a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Animal Science or a related field preferred
Highly collaborative style and relationship building skills
Ability to manage a variety of key initiatives concurrently
High level of detail, self-motivation, and organization to achieve quality results
Ability to exercise a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism
Proven record of reliability and a desire to excel
No contact with pigs outside the Hord herd
