Who will you be working with?

You'll be joining our innovative Wabtec Bus Solutions division, a team dedicated to developing leading systems for the Transit Bus & Rail industries including eBus charging systems, innovative passenger door systems, access ramps, and wheelchair lifts. Our group combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of product requirements to deliver industry-leading solutions, lasting value to our customers, and cutting-edge technologies that shape the future of public transit.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Wabtec Bus Solutions division, you will be responsible for leading the electrical and embedded software engineering teams focused on door, ramps, & lifts controls, charging/power transfer systems, and relay/contactor product lines. You'll oversee the design and development of electrical and embedded software-based products, ensure compliance with industry standards, and collaborate with customers and stakeholders. Your leadership, strategy, and innovation will be crucial in maintaining Wabtec's market leadership in advanced bus transportation systems and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. You'll report directly to the Director of Product Engineering & Product Management.

What do we want to know about you?

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, computer, or electronics engineering, or computer science (ABET accredited)

  • Master's degree and/or MBA highly preferred

  • 15+ years of relevant experience & 7+ years in leadership

  • Proven record of driving high-impact business results

  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing engineering teams

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and strategic thinking skills

  • Proficient in mentoring for project management & root cause analysis

  • History of driving change and innovation

  • Solid Stage Gate NPD & FMEA process knowledge

  • Experience with vehicle control technologies, control systems, and cybersecurity

  • Experience with software development lifecycle & agile methodologies

What will your typical day look like?

  • Manage the development of industry leading electrical and software-based products.

  • Develop and execute strategies for an electrical and software-based product portfolio.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors/engineers.

  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation efforts across the product portfolio.

  • Develop & control department KPI’s, ensuring alignment with company goals.

  • Facilitate collaboration and harmonization peer departments, cross-functional teams, project management, and other internal/external stakeholders.

  • Continuously improves/adapts internally for more effective and efficient work

  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality.

  • Represent Wabtec Bus Solutions in customer meetings and industry events.

  • Manage department budget, resource allocation, and oversee departmental expenditures.

  • Collaborate with marketing/sales to align with market demands.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with key stakeholders

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Primarily office-based work at Buffalo Grove office

  • Use a computer for extended periods

  • Occasionally lift/move up to twenty-five pounds

  • Stand, walk, and navigate facilities

  • Occasional travel (15%) to customer and manufacturing sites

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
